USA Women's National Team play for third place in FINA Super Final

Beijing, China - June 5 - The USA Women's National Team will play for third place at the FINA World League Super Final after falling to China 9-7 in the semifinals. The loss was the second to China in this tourney, as Team USA fell 16-15 in a shootout to open the tournament. Lolo Silver (Long Beach, CA/Stanford/NYAC) and Annika Dries (Laguna Beach, CA/Stanford/SET) each scored twice and Tumua Anae (Newport Beach, CA/USC/SOCAL) posted 10 saves in the loss. Team USA will take on Hungary tomorrow at 2:40pm local time/11:40pm pst (June 5). For a full tourney schedule click here. The loss ends a streak of four straight gold medals in FINA World League Super Final play.

China took a 1-0 lead after the first period and went ahead 4-2 at halftime. Team USA looked to chip away in the third period scoring two goals but China countered with three of their own, grabbing a 7-4 lead going into the fourth. In the final period Team USA was able to outscore China 3-2, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit and they fell 9-7.

The United States went 2/5 on power plays and 0/2 on penalty shots while China was 3/9 on power plays and did not attempt a penalty. "We missed too many opportunities again tonight. But I was happy with how we battled back. Hats off to China for playing an excellent game," said USA Head Coach Adam Krikorian.
