What started out 2 weeks ago as a coach a little disappointed in his SR State team due to half the group being on summer vacation or having missed practice time due to summer schedules, ended up in a fantastic group of swimmers doing some amazing things this past weekend at SR State at PSC.
While everyone knows how excited I was last SR SC State in March in that we were able to take our largest SR group ever and narrowly missed finishing in the top 10. I am almost just as happy with the outcome this past weekend. Sticking with our unofficial team mantra of “small but mighty” the Anthem Dolphins took 6 swimmers to SR State.
They all did great! Every one of them had multiple best times at the meet.
Showing that their hard work was paying off;
Katie Moore finished 7th overall in the 1500 the first day of the meet and our Girls Relay scored points that night as well.
On Saturday, Holly Kolkebeck made finals in the 200 Breast setting a team record and getting a Sectional B cut. Both girls relays set team records that day and scored points.
On Sunday we had our best and most successful day with Trey making finals for the 400 IM, Emily for the 100 breast, Krista for the 200 back and Holly finished 8th overall in the 100 breast getting her first Sectional A cut and only the second sectional girls cut in the teams history.
Monday finished with more personal best times and one more team record and scoring relay for the girls.
The team scored more that 50 points more than last summer and continued our SR programs meteoric rise over the past year.
I couldn’t be more proud of this group and can’t wait for the rest of the current and soon to be 15 over swimmers to make our next State meet our most successful ever!
