Osprey Linnea Mack and Rachel Owen to Swim for UCLA
The Osprey are proud to announce that we will have two athletes attending UCLA in the fall of 2013 and swimming for the UCLA program under head coach Cindy Gallagher.
Linnea Mack has accepted a full scholarship from the Bruins. One of the nation’s top female recruits, Linnea posted times at CCS that rank her 3rd nationally in the 100 yd free, 49.13 and 4th in the 50 yd free, 22.64. A 13 time individual High School All American, Linnea was recently selected as the top female athlete in the CCS by the by the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame.
Rachel Owen turned down scholarship multiple offers from other Division 1 schools in choosing to accept UCLA’s offer to join the team as a walk on. It was a difficult decision for the accomplished Osprey sprinter, but in the end, the opportunity to compete for UCLA and attend the school’s stellar nursing program was too great for Rachel to pass up.
Coach Brian expressed pride in both girls. “Each of these young ladies embodies what the Osprey Way is about; goal setting, hard work, skill development and character. They not only have talent, but the coachability, intelligence, humility, perseverance and dedication required to reach one’s potential. Since they’ve been in our senior group, their tremendous daily attendance and work ethic have helped to set the standard for the team. They have prioritized swimming and sacrificed wherever necessary to put themselves into this position, to swim at a quality Pac 12 school like UCLA. Each of these young ladies demonstrates the truth of a wise adage by Bill Parcells, ‘in the end, the greatest ability is availability.’ We look forward to their future successes at UCLA and beyond.”
