DCST National Results – Day 3 Caitlyn Goes over the Moon by Winning her 3rd and 4th National Championships!
At the National Championship Meet, Caitlynn Moon swam 4 individual events on the first three days; and she won National Championships in all 4 events! On Day 3, Caitlynn started off the final session by winning the 800 meter Freestyle by 6 seconds over the second place finisher. Later in the evening, she won the 200 meter Freestyle in a much closer fashion. She was down 0.9 seconds with 50 meters to go, and she went a full second faster than the leader on the last 50 meters to win by 0.1 seconds. On the day, she dropped 11 seconds and 5.6 seconds in the 800 and 200 Freestyle, respectively. Both swims earned her National All-American honors, and she set the DCST team record in each event by 2.4 seconds (800 meter Freestyle) and 2.3 seconds (200 meter Freestyle). She has now been named a National All-American 17 times in her career, and she still has some relays to swim on the next two days. Her second All-American honor of the day moved her out of a tie for 4th place on the DCST All-Time All-American list with current DCST Coach David Gordon.
On the men’s side, Daniel Hein continued his outstanding meet with his second individual top 10 finish in as many individual events. On Wednesday, he dropped 2 seconds in his 100 meter Butterfly to finish 10th. This was the 3rd time he earned National All-American honors this week, so far. His time also eclipsed the previous DCST team record by 0.3 seconds. In the same event, Dylan Powers lowered his personal best time by an impressive 3.2 seconds. Hein and Powers teamed up with Jacob Bjork and Jack Fergus in the 400 meter Freestyle Relay for a 23rd place finish, and a whopping 8 second time improvement.
The Women’s 400 meter Freestyle Relay team of Moon, Lexi Olson, Ashley Stark and Brittnie Dean also had a great time drop by lowering their seed time by 4.1 seconds. Other best times on the day were: Lexi Olson – 200 Breaststroke (5.6 second time drop) and Jacob Bjork – 200 Breaststroke (2.8 second time drop). In time trials, DCST had 5 personal best times. In the 100 meter Butterfly, Ashley Stark lowered her time by 3.4 seconds; Sarah Fergus lowered her time by 1.4 seconds; and Jack Fergus lowered his time by 0.4 seconds. Sarah Fergus’s time was well under the National qualifying time. DCST’s two National Meet rookies, Jensen Keck and Sarah Hein, showed they are future contenders with their performances in the time trials. Keck easily made the 200 Breaststroke qualifying time with a 4.2 second time drop, and Hein showed her potential with a whopping 6.3 time drop in the 200 meter Freestyle.
After three days, DCST has 26 best times out of 33 total swims for a 79% improvement rate.
