Team Update: Welcome Coach Veronica Hernandez

Hello Parents & Swimmers,

We are looking forward to getting started on September 3rd. Attached are the swim meet calendars for the Junior & Senior groups. Take a look and put down some swim meet dates for the Fall. The couple of meets on the calendar, the Crow Canyon Swim Meet and Manatee Open Water 2x1 Relay are already open for registration!


As we plan for the Fall season we are happy to announce and welcome Coach Verónica Hernándezto the Armada Coaching Staff! Coach Verónica Hernández will be working primarily with the Blue & Gold Group as well as assisting other groups. Here is a bit about Coach Verónica Hernández.


Coach Verónica Hernández comes to Albany Armada with over 10 year of experience in USA Swimming and over 13 years of coaching at the high school level.  She has been a Head Age Group Coach for two other programs, and has coached every level ofathlete from lessons to masters.  Coach Verónica attended San José State University, and double majored in Economics and Anthropology. Verónica is also a Level 3 Coach in the American Swimming Coaches Association. 


Coach Verónica brings her expertise as a Meet Director having served as Meet Director for such meets as Western Zone All-Star Championship, Long Course Junior Olympics, Long Course Far Westerns, and the BVAL High School League Championships.  


Coach Verónica is also an active member of the Pacific Swimming Board and served a two-year term as elected Vice-Chair of Zone 1 South, and then followed that with a two-year term as elected Age Group Vice-Chair of the Pacific Swimming Executive Board. Coach Verónica is currently serving as assistant to the Age Group Vice-Chair and was recently elected to another board position as Member-At-Large along with Coach Helen.


Coach Verónica is one of the longest standing All-Star coaches in Pacific, having coached on all four of the different All-Star meets that Pacific Swimming offers.  She is also an active member of the Pacific Diversity Committee, and has been the Camp Director for all of the Diversity Camps to date, as well as having coached the National Diversity Select Camp at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.  Additionally, she will be the director for the first ever Western Zone Diversity Camp held at Cal State East Bay later this year.


We are very excited to bring Coach Veronica on board and bring her expertise to our swim team!
