September 18 CLUB NEWS

“The key is not the will to win. Everybody has that. It is the will to prepare to win that is important.”

- Coach Bobby Knight

If your two week trial is finishing this week, contact Jill and Anne to confirm your registration.

Mark your calendar for Mini Squad Parent Meetings:  Please plan to attend our parent info meeting – Wednesday September 25th and Thursday September 26th 4pm and 5:20pm in the Greenery (upstairs) when your child is swimming.  Short and sweet – 15 minutes max.  Jam packed with important information about swim club!  “Swag Bags” for parents who come! Parent Meetings for other groups will be happening soon. Watch for dates!

Sign up for the Sleepover:  You’ve heard us talk about it . . . now it’s time to sign up!  Swimmers in Juniors or higher are invited to the Team Sleepover.  Friday September 27 – Saturday September 28.  Details are on the website.

Sign up for a Farm Bag:  There’s still time to sign up for the Farm Bag Fundraiser – let’s support our local farmers, our team, and our families!   (p.s. We still need a parent volunteer to coordinate this program . . . let Jill know if you can help once per month!)

High School Swimmers:  Swimmers who are in grades 7 thru 12 are eligible to compete at the Regional High School Swim Meet on October 27th, here in Penticton.  If your swimmer wants to compete for their school, please ensure that they have signed up with their sponsor teacher:

Pen Hi – Mr. Nackoney         KVR – Mr. Kennedy         SLMS – Mrs. Stephens         Maggie – Ms. Woolner

McNicoll – (no sponsor teacher yet, please see Coach Tina)

Ensure that your account is active:  Some families are finding that they cannot log in to their KISU account, or when they do, their swimmers are not in the correct training group or they cannot sign up for events . . . if you are experiencing any of these difficulties, it is likely that your account is still pending.  This could be for one of two reasons – either you are still on the 2 week trial status, or your registration fees have not yet been received by the club.  If you have made your registration payment and are still having difficulties, please contact Jill (

Swim Academy – check your sizing:  We have received a sizing chart for the dryland gear orders that were placed last week.  Please consult the website regarding confirmation of sizes!

(whew!  It's busy around here . . . I hope I didn't forget anything)

KISU is playing host to the SwimBC Regional Camp on October 5th and 6th.  The top 12&Under girls and 13&Under boys from our region (Thompson/Okanagan) are invited to attend this training camp – so KISU is extremely proud that 8 of our swimmers have qualified!  They will have opportunities to swim under the coaching of SwimBC’s Provincial Team Coach, and other coaches from our region, do dryland activities and talk sessions, and have their parents attend informative meetings about being the parent of a swimmer of this age.  Congratulations to Acacia Benn, Emmy Caruso, Anna Spence, Daniel Everton, Xelian Louw, Elijah Kliever, Tyler Wall, and Keaton Woods!

You may notice that a few faces are missing from around the pool deck over the next few days . . .

Coach Anne and Coach Sue are attending the BC Coaches Conference in Whistler, and Jill Doroshuk and Club President, Nancy Telford, are attending the SwimBC Annual General Meeting (also at Whistler). Coach Tina, who is an avid outrigger paddler, is competing at a race in Hawaii!  All will be learning great lessons to bring back to the club . . . be it lessons in coaching, lessons in club management, or lessons in racing!

SwimBC, the governing body for our sport in our province, has some valuable parent information in their Swim Guide, which is available for viewing at their website, or by following this link.  The Parent Resources begin on page 58 – check it out!
