Swimmers in the Spotlight. Each month, the coaches select a swimmer from their group who they believe has stood out from the crowd, or who has done something really special. We also now include the Pre-Competitive Group, because there are some great kids who we just had to recognize. The month of September was an important one in that it sets the tone as to how one will proceed through the rest of the season. You can check out the Spotlight Swimmers, their pictures and the coach’s write up, by visiting our website and clicking on the “Photos Tab”. The coaches would like to send their best wishes to each of the following winners:
Pre-Comp Group = Eliza Hernandez
Bronze Group = Rylie Singleton
Silver Group = Jet Ochoa
Gold Boys Group = Joshua Sponseller
Gold Girls Group = Tea Laughlin
Senior Group = Skyler Schilke

Pre-Masters is Back! The very popular “Pre-Masters” program, offered by Ventura County Masters is back. It will begin October 14th on Mondays & Wednesdays, run for 8 weeks, cost $80, and be offered from 6:00-7:00pm. This class is great for our parents or any adults who are intimidated by a regular masters program, or for those who would like more instruction and guidance on learning the fundamentals.
Fishing Program at Buena. Buenaventura Swim Club offers what we call our “Fishing Program”. Fishing is where we allow kids to swim “UP” one level. For example, a Bronze Group Swimmer (by invitation only) can swim with the next group up, in this case the Silver Group, each Wednesday. This affords the swimmer the opportunity to meet another coach, become familiar with the standards of the next group up, and afterward, they get to go back to the comfort zone of their own group. It also helps the coaches identify who might have the skills, maturity, and desire to eventually move up to the next level. Please remember, there are certain standards posted on the website, but most importantly, a move up is based on coach discretion.
Congratulations to Coach Brittany. Did you know that Coach Brittany was quietly training for triathlon competitions? This past weekend Brittany competed in the Olympic Distance at the LA Triathlon and finished in 7th place over all for women! Further, she finished FIRST in the NON-Professional category, qualifying her for an Elite/Professional License. Good job to Brittany, you make the Buena Family proud!
