DCST Gets Split at Rockford Triangular Meet

DCST Gets Split at Rockford Triangular Meet

At a triangular meet at the Rock River Valley (Rockford) YMCA, DCST had to settle for a split.  DCST lost to the host team in a close meet, but easily finished ahead of Freeport.  Rock River had 581 points to DCST’s 556 and Freeport’s 94 points.  DCST is now 4 – 1 on the season.  As a team, DCST swam okay with 109 career best times out of a total of 193 swims for a 56% improvement rate. Moreover, 23 of these swims were a new event legally swum by a DCST swimmer for the first time in their career. DCST also had 10 swims which achieved the District Qualifying, and 7 swims which achieved the State Qualifying time for the first time.

Thirty-seven swimmers had a great meet with at least two career best times. These swimmers were:  Lillian Bruhl, Sadie Burton, Emily Capino, Nina De La Cruz, Mason Dukes, Anabelle Engleson, Maura Fisers, Grace Flemming, Serena Goelitz, Anthony Gutierrez, Jenna Hale, Gwen Hall, Evan Harrelson, Georgia Harrelson, Kylee Heck, Ethan Heilman, Theo Heilman, Noah Johnson, Brook Koehnke, Caroline Mackey, Holden Mackey, Madelyn Maxwell, Rebecca Nenonen, David Ruetten, Paul Ruetten, Jackson Shortridge, Nicole Skrzypek, Hunter Smith, Lily Stanley, Andrew Tatum, Amanda Underwood, Calvin VanderSchee, Jared VanderSchee, Anna Westhoff, Riley Wiegartz, Madison Williams and Colin Wunner.

After each meet, the coaching staff picks two swimmers, one girl and one boy, as the “Big Dogs" of the meet. Big Dogs are not only selected on their performance in the meet, but the coaches also take into consideration the swimmer’s practice attendance, work ethic, team spirit and sportsmanship. For this meet, Emily Carpino, age 14, and Noah Johnson, age 8, were selected as Big Dogs of the meet.

DCST has two USA Swimming meets coming up next on the schedule.  DCST will be at Pleasant Prairie, WI on November 15 – 17 and at Woodstock on December 6 – 8.  DCST’s next full team meet will be the team’s big Barb Wire Classic Invitational Meet on December 14 and 15.  Everyone is highly encouraged to attend this event.  For our rookies, this will be their first chance at swimming in an invitational.  With a 5 week break between meets, the DCST Coaching Staff is expecting many big time drops at this meet.  Swimmers who have yet to swim a legal breaststroke or butterfly swim in a meet are highly encouraged to use this time period to make their strokes legal in these events.  The coaching staff would like to have as many of these swimmers swim their first legal swims in these events at the Barb Wire.
