Sixth Place Finish and 191 Lifetime Bests at Winter Age Group Championships!

FAST had a fantastic Winter Age Group Championship meet last weekend with 55 swimmers posting 191 lifetime best times.  Thirty-seven swimmers scored points for the team by finishing among the top 16 in individual events.  FAST finished in 6th place overall.  FAST highlights are listed below.  Complete results can be viewed here.

Seventeen swimmers swam lifetime bests in all of their races.  Congratulations to Katie Cho, Kailee Chow, Ryan Friedman, Maddie Gorrie, Elizabeth Harita, Trevor Holtgrew, Doug Johnson, Skyler Kao, Clarence Mao, Lawrence Mao, Natalie McIlveen, Jaden Nasu, Mick Olson, Lillian Pendergrass, Michael Wang, Erin Wu, and Katilyn Yee!

Several FAST relays placed in the top 8:

Ryan Friedman was FAST's lone 8 & Under swimmer.  Just one week after breaking the FAST team record in the 200 IM, Ryan dropped two and a half seconds in the 50 Backstroke finishing in 39.01.
 
FAST's 9-10s were great with several huge time drops.  Alejandro Buendia dropped 10 seconds in the 200 IM and 3 seconds in the 200 Freestyle.  He finished 12th in the 200 Freestyle.  Kailee Chow cut 6 seconds off of her 200 Freestyle time for a 9th place finish.  She also took 10th in the 100 Back and 8th in the 100 Free dropping almost 4 seconds in each event.  Elizabeth Harita chopped 8 seconds off of her 200 IM, 7 seconds off of her 100 Butterfly, and 5 and a half off of her 200 Freestyle.  She finished 12th and 13th, respectively, in the latter two events.  Tyryn Empremsilapa placed in the top 5 in all six of her races: 100 Breaststroke (4th), 100 Butterfly (3rd), 200 Freestyle (3rd), 50 Butterfly (5th), 200 IM (2nd) and 50 Breaststroke (1st).  Five of Tyryn's six times were lifetime bests.  Skyler Kao posted lifetime bests in all six of his individual races as well as the lead off leg of the 200 Freestyle Relay.  He finished 11th in the 100 Butterfly, 13th in the 200 Freestyle, and 15th in the 50 Butterfly.  Justin Lee dropped an incredible 19 seconds in the 200 IM and 6 seconds in the 100 Freestyle.  He finished 12th in the 200 IM and had three other top 16 finishes in the 50 Freestyle (13th), 50 Backstroke (12t), and 50 Butterfly (8th).  Angie Mai dropped 7 seconds in the 200 Freestyle and claimed 14th place.  She finished 16th in the both the 50 Freestyle and 200 IM, both with lifetime best times.  Clarence Mao had four top 16 finishes in the 200 Freestyle (14th), 50 Backstroke (15th), 50 Butterfly (14th), and 100 Freestyle (13th).  Lilly Mazzi went 4 for 4 with top 5 finishes posting a lifetime best in the 200 Freestyle along the way.  He time of 2:15.79 was a 3-second drop and earned 2nd place.  Natalie McIlveen also dropped in the 200 Freestyle dropping 2 and a half seconds.  Lilian Pendergrass chopped almost 3 seconds off of her 50 Backstroke time posting a 35.31 for 4th place.  She dropped an awesome 8 seconds in the 100 Backstroke posting a 1:15.94 and taking 5th place.  Myles Tran dropped 1 second in the 200 Freestyle.  Teammates Aaron Yang and Baron Yang also dropped in the 200 Freestyle.  Aaron's time of 2:30.09 was a 5-second drop and earned 16th place overall.  Kaitlyn Yee dropped in all 6 of her individual races as well as the lead off leg of the 200 Medley Relay.  Her 6 and a half second drop in the 200 Freestyle earned 5th place overall.  The next day she finished 6th in the 200 IM and 15th in the 100 Freestyle.
Katie Cho cut over 7 seconds off of her 200 Freestyle.  Makena Ditsworth dropped just over 3 seconds in the same event.  Her time of 2:03.15 claimed the 3rd place spot overall.  Makena also finished 3rd in the 100 Butterfly with a lifetime best 1:04.43.  She was the WAG Champion in the 11-12 Girls 500 Freestyle cutting over 2 seconds off of her time for a lifetime best 5:19.21.  Hannah Frey also had a great drop in the 500 Freestyle cutting over 11 seconds off of her time and finishing in 15th place overall.  Hannah also took the 15th place spot in the 200 Freestyle with another lifetime best.  Trevor Holtgrew dropped over 12 seconds in the 500 Freestyle for a final time of 6:15.51.  Annie Johnson dropped over 9 seconds in the event to take 10th overall with a 5:43.48.  Annie also finished 15th in the 100 Butterfly with a second best 1:07.50.  Leah Johnson dropped over 6 seconds in the 200 Freestyle to take 6th place in 2:06.34.  Leah also posted top 10 finishes and best times in the 100 Breaststroke (8th), 100 Butterfly (10th), and 200 IM (8th).  Maya Lee cut time in all but two of her races and also posted a best time in the 100 Freestyle while leading off the 400 Freestyle Relay.  Lawrence Mao was the WAG Champion in four different events winning the 50 Backstroke, 50 Butterfly, 100 Backstroke, and 100 Freestyle!  He posted best times in all of his races.  Terence Ma dropped over 8 seconds in the 500 Freestyle to take 5th place overall.  He also placed 5th in the 100 Butterfly with a lifetime best 1:04.18.  Terence finished 9th in the shorter 50 Butterfly with a lifetime best 29.72.  Evelyn McIlveen dropped time in three events with several top 12 finishes: 500 Freestyle (5th), 200 Freestyle (10th), 200 IM (9th), and 100 Backstroke (11th).  Evelyn also posted a lifetime best in the 100 Freestyle leading off the 400 Freestyle Relay.  Lily Olson dropped over 6 seconds in the 200 Freestyle and almost 1 full second in the 100 Breaststroke.
 
Peter Bauer dropped in two events and posted a best time leading off the 200 Freestyle Relay.  Ryan Cavanagh had a tremendous drop in the 1,650 Freestyle cutting almost 25 seconds and dropped over 13 seconds in the 1,000 Freestyle.  Ryan placed 7th and 11th, respectively, in these events.  Nathan Chang also dropped in the 1,000 Freestyle taking over 17 seconds off of his time.  He also posted best times in the 400 IM, 200 Butterfly, and 100 Butterfly.  Sabrina Diaz swam best times in 3 of her events and dropped a second and a half in the 100 Backstroke leading off the 400 Medley Relay.  Ethan Dickinson posted best times in five of his six events, placing among the top 16 in three: 1,000 Freestyle (10th), 500 Freestyle (13th), and 1,650 Freestyle (9th).  Roseryn Empremsilapa had a 12-second drop in the 200 Backstroke to claim the 13th place spot overall.  Her split at the 100 was also a best time, as well as her 500 Freestyle and 1,000 Freestyle splits during the 1,650 Freestyle.  She also dropped in the 200 IM.  Maddie Gorrie dropped in the 1,000 and 1,650 Freestyle, breaking the 12-minute barrier for the first time in the 1,000.  Doug Johnson dropped in all six of his races, including a 10-second drop in the 1,650 Freestyle which earned 2nd place overall in the 13-14 division.  Robert Lee posted a big drop in the 100 Breaststroke improving his time by 3.75 seconds and taking 12th place.  Ashlyn Madinya cut over 16 seconds off of her best time in the 1,000 Freestyle.  Manon Miura cut an incredible 36+ seconds off of his 100 Butterfly after not racing it since 2010.  He also improved in the 100 Breaststroke and posted a 6-second drop in the 200 Butterfly.  Jaden Nasu dropped in both of the Breaststroke races.  Cathryn Salladin dropped in the 200 IM, 100 Breaststroke, and 1,000 Freestyle finishing 4th place overall in the 1,000.  Jerad Spuur cut 10 seconds off of his 500 Freestyle, 1,000 Freestyle, and 1,650 Freestyle placing 16th in the latter.  He also improved in the 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, and the 50 Freestyle while leading off the 200 Freestyle Relay.  Michael Wang had a big meet, posting best times in the 400 IM, 200 Backstroke, 500 Freestyle, 200 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly, and 100 Backstroke leading off the 400 Medley Relay.  Michael qualified for the Finals of the 200 Butterfly finishing in 7th place overall with a lifetime best 2:04.77.  Joey Weissig dropped in both the 500 Freestyle and 1,000 Freestyle.   He finished 12th in the 1,000 and 13th in the 1,650 Freestyle.

Emily Bautista had a huge drop in the 500 Freestyle improving by more than 22 seconds.  Kayleen Bretz improved in the 200 Butterfly and dropped over 7 seconds in the 400 IM to finish 13th overall.  Hana Claesson dropped over 2 seconds in the 200 Freestyle.  Andres Frausto improved in the 200 IM and 200 Butterfly, finishing 12th in the latter.  Madeline Garcia dropped time in three of her four races posting best times in the 500 Freestyle, 200 Butterfly, and 100 Butterfly.  Allie Miller swam best times in the 100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle, and 1,650 Freestyle.  She finished 13th in the 1,000 and 16th in the 1,650.  Mick Olson cut over 26 seconds in the 1,000 Freestyle, over 6 seconds in the 200 Backstroke, and more than 3 seconds in the 500 Freestyle.    Isabella Osun also dropped in the 200 Backstroke.  Kevin Smithmatungol improved in the 100 Backstroke, 200 Butterfly, 200 IM, and 100 Butterfly.  Justin Wang dropped over 7 seconds in the 400 IM and swam best times in the 200 Butterfly as well as the 200 Freestyle while leading off the 800 Freestyle Relay.  Emilee White dropped almost 3 seconds in the 200 Backstroke finishing in 9th place overall.  Erin Wu dropped time in both of her swims, the 1,000 Freestyle and 1,650 Freestyle.  Erin finished 15th in the latter dropping over 13 seconds.
