NVST Shines at Husky Invitational

Five Napa Valley Swim Team members recently competed at the 65th annual Husky Invitational held in Federal Way, Wash.

The Husky Invitational, one of the longest-running swim meets in the nation, attracted a field of over 1,000 collegiate and USA Swimming teams from throughout the western United States.

NVST had top performances from its women’s relay team of Megan Minor, Alex Swanson, Mia Facey and Haley Murphy. The foursome broke NVST senior records in the 200 freestyle relay (11th, 1:38.56; previous record 1:40.61, 2006), the 200 medley relay (ninth, 1:49.31; previous record 1:53.88, 2005), and the 400 medley relay (seventh, 3:55.46; previous record 3:57.22, 2011).

Individually, Mia Facey won the 200-yard IM (2:03.05; preliminary time of 2:02.46 was a new team record, previous record was 2:05.03) and the 100 freestyle (51.02, new team record, previous record of 51.50).

Facey was also third in the 100 butterfly (55.27; preliminary swim of 54.97 a new team record, previous record was 55.80), and fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:06.10; 2:05.66 preliminaries).

Alex Swanson also had a good meet, taking sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.18) to go along with some other solid performances (24.33 in the 50 freestyle, 53.38 in the 100 freestyle, 1:57.68 in the 200 freestyle, 2:27.09 in the 200 breaststroke).

Other strong swims were turned in by Megan Minor (25.43 in the 50 freestyle relay leadoff, 1:01.45 in the 100 backstroke relay leadoff, 2:03.19 in the 200 freestyle), Haley Murphy (24.45 in the 50 freestyle, 54.24 in the 100 freestyle, 1:58.27 in the 200 freestyle, 1:09.07 in the 100 breaststroke), and Bradley John Erickson (23.35 in the 50 freestyle, 49.79 in the 100 freestyle, 1:48.51 in the 200 freestyle, 1:03.17 in the 100 breaststroke, 2:01.77 in the 200 individual medley).

The Napa Valley Swim Team is a year-round USA Swimming team, which has served the Napa community for over 50 years.
