MP Age Group Swimmer Miya French to compete in Transplant Games of America

Congratulations to Marin Pirates age-group team member Miya French who has been selected to represent Northern California in the Transplant Games of America.  This event will be held in Houston, Texas July 11-15.

Miya is aiming for the World Transplant Games which will be held in Argentina in 2015.

At the age of five, Miya received a life saving liver transplant from her 18 year old sister.  She was unable to attend school until the first grade.  In the summer of 2012, she began swim lessons at Coach Tom Evers' SwimAmerica swim school with Pirate age-group coach Sarah Paoli.  Sarah encouraged her to swim 25 yards which would allow her to begin training with the Pirates the following season. Miya made it across the pool and joined the Pirates the following fall.

Miya is immune compromised and can get sick easily.  Her parents often give her the option to forgo swim practice during bad weather.  Her reply, "If other kids can do it, so can I".

The entire Pirate community is proud of Miya and her family expresses their thanks to her Pirate coaches and teammates for their support.
