Introducing your 2014 Stingrays Coaching Staff

Another Stingray season is approaching quickly!  In a previous email we announced our returning coaches and our new coaches this year.  Below we have added a quick Bio about each coach for those who are not familiar with the coaches already.  We have a fantastic group of coaches.  Let’s welcome them all!

Returning Head Coach Steve De Le Piedra

Steve started teaching in the Park Hill School District in 2006 at the middle school level.  He began teaching at Park Hill South in 2011.  Before joining the Park Hill school district, Steve was a high school teacher in Tampa, FL for three years.

Steve received his bachelor’s degree from Truman State University in Business Admin.  In 2006 he received his master’s degree from the University of South Florida in Career and Technical Education.

In addition to coaching our New Mark Stingrays, Steve is the head swim coach at Park Hill South High School.  Steve has coached swimming at Park Hill South for 6 Years and was an Assistant coach at Park Hill for 2 years prior.  Before coming to the Park Hill School District, Steve was the head coach for boys and girls at Chamberlain HS in Tampa, Florida for 3 years.

Annie Deterding

Annie has a Bachelors of Arts in history and a Masters of Arts degree in education from Truman State University.  She swam for Platte County R-III High School from 2005-2009 where she Broke Platte county girls 500m freestyle record.  During the 2013-14 season, Annie helped coach the North Kansas City school districts Girls Swim Team and was a student Teacher with NKC school district at Oak Park High School from August 2013- December 2013. She joined the staff at Staley High School as History teacher in January of 2014.   Annie is eager to introduce new swimmers to the water and help more experienced swimmers perfect the mechanics of the strokes.  Let’s give a Big Stingrays welcome Annie Deterding!



Jack Rund

We are welcoming back Jack Rund this year for another Stingray season.  Jack attended High School at Rockhurst.  In 2010-2013 he attended Florida Southern College and Maple Woods.  He plans to attend William Jewell in the fall of 2014 and Major in Graphic Design.  Jack has many swimming achievements.  Jack was a long term New Mark Stingray swimmer from 1997-2010. In 2009 MSHSAA State Champion (200 Medley Relay) [Breaststroke Leg] 2011All-SSC 2nd Team, 2013 Region 8 Sectionals, Silver Medal [200 Free], Silver Medal [50 Free], Bronze Medal [100 Free]

Jack helped coach The Staley Boys 2013 State Champions (200 Medley Relay Team) and currently helps coach for Club North swimming. 

Jack also currently works as a freelance graphic designer with Squid Screen Printing.


Nathaniel Vawter

Nathaniel will be a 2014 Graduate of Staley High School.  He is a member of National Honor Society, The Math Club, and is a National Merit Commended Scholar. He was also on the Missouri Valley All Academic team.  Nathaniel has been a year round swimmer since the age of 10.  He was a member of NLU swim club for 4 years and was a part of the Staley High School Falcon’s swim team for 4 years where he was also was a team Captain. Some of his swim Awards include all State 100m breast stroke for 2011, 2012 and All State honorable mention in the 200 IM in 2011, 2012.  Nathaniel was a Stingray for 11 years and a Rookie Coach for 5 years.  Nathaniel plans to swim during college.   


Kyle Martin

Kyle is a 2013 graduate of Liberty North High School where he was a swimmer and a swim and dive team captain.  He is a varsity NCAA Division 2 swimmer and diver for the Drury University Panthers.  He is currently studying Computer Science.  Some of Kyle’s accomplishments include National Honor Society, MSHSAA All State swimmer, Missouri A plus tutor.  Kyle is also a volunteer for the Special Olympics Swim meets and an Eagle Scout.   Kyle has been a swimmer since the he was 6 and became a Stingray beginning at the age of 10.


Victoria Harp

Tori is a 2012 Graduate of Staley High school where she was involved with National Honor Society, Spanish Club and Journalism.  She was a Staley High School Lady Falcon swimmer and letterman for 4 years.  She was also a member of the Lady Falcon State swim team for 3 of those 4 years.  Tori attends the University of Missouri where her major is Spanish.  Tori was a prior Stingray for 13 years and a rookie coach for 5 years and received the Stingray of the year award in 2012.
