JO CHAMPIONSHIPS RECAP

The 14 and under Mason Manta Rays concluded the short course season with an exciting 6th place finish at the Ohio Junior Olympic Championships. Going into the third day of competition, the Manta Rays were 81 points out of 6th place. By the end of prelims the gap was closed to 35 points. The Manta Rays were 15 points behind Upper Arlington going into the final event. After the backstroke was completed the Manta Rays ended up 7 points ahead to take over 6th place.

The Manta Rays had 45 different swimmers combine for 123 lifetime best swims during the meet. The following swimmers achieved National AAA times (also known as Ohio Zone qualifying times): Allison Bloebaum, Carl Bloebaum, Griffin Braun, Kierstyn Cassidy, Adam Chaney, Puran Kansakar, Sahan Kansakar, Camille Nguyen, Olivia Potter, Maggie Sattler, Stephanie Schoenlein, Terry Tao, Lauren Thomas, Ian Van Gorp, Luke Volpenhein, Megan Wang, Raegan Willis, and Emily Zhao.  

Allison Bloebaum earned four USA Sectional times in the 200, 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyle events.

Carl Bloebaum broke a 9-10 year old team record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:10.30.

Adam Chaney broke two 11-12 year old team records; the 50 backstroke with a time of 28.46 and the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.61.

The 13-14 boys 200 Medley Relay of Keith Enrico, Terry Tao, Luis Carrillo, and Griffin Braun set a new team record with a time of 1:45.89.

Many of the swimmers who competed in this JO meet will be eligible to compete in the same age group at the long course JO Meet in July.
