IOC has approved several qualifying systems for 2016 Olympics
 
On Thursday, April 3rd the WSCA News published the following report about the qualifying systems for 2016 Olympics.
 
LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND--The International Olympic Committee (IOC) in February appears to have reviewed the qualifying systems for the 2016 Olympics. And from that review most of the systems were approved. The approved qualifying systems include those for 4 of the 5 Aquatics disciplines: all except Swimming. Also not appear to be yet approved are the qualifying systems for: Athletics (Track & Field), Football (Soccer), Gymnastics (all 3 disciplines) and Track Cycling.
 
The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), along with several of the International Federations related to the sports in question, have posted the qualifying systems. The AOC posting of the qualifying systems can be found online here:
 
Note: Diving, Synchro, Water Polo and Open Water are posted.
 
The Open Water system is filed what is under "Swimming".

OPEN WATER
 
 -2 events: men's 10K, women's 10K
 
 -total athlete quota: 50 (25 males, 25 females)
  --host nation guaranteed at least 1 male and 1 female from the 50
 
 -no more than 2 swimmers per nation per event
 
 -spots allocated to the athlete
 
 -main qualifier: 10K at the 2015 World Championships (top-10 finishers; only place for a nation to qualify 2 swimmers per event)
 
 -other qualifying (per Olympic race): 9 from a 2016 Olympic qualifying race, 5 continental spots, 1 spot for host nation
 
 
 
 -8 events:
  --men's: 3m Springboard (individual), 3m Springboard (synchro), 10m Platform (individual), 10m Platform (synchro)
  --women's: 3m Springboard (individual), 3m Springboard (synchro), 10m Platform (individual), 10m Platform (synchro)
 
 -total athlete quota: 136 (68 males, 68 females)
   --host nation guaranteed at least 4 males and 4 females from the 136
 
 -athletes must be at least 14 years-old on December 31, 2016
 
 -maximum team sizes: 8 males, 8 females
 
 -entry limits: 1 team per nation per synchro event, 2 athletes per nation per individual event
 
 -spots allocated to the nation, not to the athlete
 
 -8 teams per synchro event (1 entry is the host nation); maximum of 34 divers in each individual event
 
 -main qualifier: 2016 Diving World Cup
 
 -other qualifying: 2015 Worlds, Continental Championships
 
 
SYNCHRO
 
 -2 events: women's Duet, women's Team
 
 -total athlete quota: 104 (all female)
  --host nation allocated 9 females from the 104
 
 -athletes must be at least 15 years-old on December 31, 2016
 
 -maximum team size: 9 females
 
 -entry limits: 1 entry per nation per event
 
 -spots allocated to the nation, not to the athlete
 
 -8 teams (1 entry is the host nation), 24 duets (1 entry is the host nation)
 
 -main qualifier: Continental championships
 
 -other qualifying: 2016 Olympic qualifying tournament
 
 
 
 -2 events: men's tournament (12 teams), women's tournament (8 teams)
 
 -total athlete quota: 260 athletes (156 males, 104 females)
  --host nation allocated 13 males and 13 females from the 260
 
 -entry limit: 1 team per nation per event, 13-player per team
 
 -spots allocated to the nation, not to the athlete
 
 -main qualifier: Continental championship (1 per continent per event)
  --host nation is the female Americas champion, but not the male champion
 
 -other qualifying:
  --3 teams per event from an Olympic qualifying tournament (April 2016)
  --2015 World League champion (male only)
  --top-2 teams not already qualified from 2015 Worlds (male only)
 
 
DEADLINE:  The Sport Entry deadline for the 2016 Olympics (to the Games organizers) is July 18, 2016. The Swimming qualifying window will close sometime before this. In 2012 the qualifying window for individual events was about a week before this; for relay events it was about a month before.
