Swim Across America – May 4, 2014
Attention SCAT Swimmers, Parents, and Friends.
Swim Across America is a national fundraiser that started in 1987 and has raised over $45 million for Cancer Centers around the country. Atlanta was selected last year as a new location for a fundraiser/swim! Click here if you would like more information about the Swim Across America.
The second annual Atlanta Swim Across America event will take place at Lake Spivey on Sunday, May 4, 2014. Participants can choose to swim a ½ mile, mile, 5K, 10K or recruit up to 6 people to complete ½ mile loops for the 3 mile relay. Thanks to many in our swim community, Swim Across America raised over $250,000 for the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta during its Inaugural year in 2013.
The course will be clearly marked, with no boat traffic, and lined with over 25 advanced lifeguards. We will have many former Olympic swimmers (see list below) and national team members who will be swimming as ‘angels’ for each distance. If you’re not ready for the Open Water, join our team as a Land Volunteer and come cheer on Team SCAT as we Make Waves to Fight Cancer.
Registration is $75 and includes a beach towel, event shirt, breakfast, lunch, entertainment , and an update from the doctors we are supporting at the Aflac Cancer Center. Wetsuit rental options are on the website and water temperatures will be posted in mid-April.
Coach Jamey strongly encourages ANY and all SCAT swimmers to participate – We would love to see some parents join the swim also! We know we have several triathletes amongst us and hope this open water swim is an opportunity for you to swim with your child! Dynamo, Swim Atlanta and the Columbus Hurricanes have created teams to join the event and we want to see our SCAT members to have the opportunity to participate as well.
You can be sure you may see one or two SCAT coaches out there swimming as well!
