2014 April Long Course Swim Meet. Thank you to all of the families who helped run our Long Course Opener, April 26-27. The wind presented some challenges at this meet, but our volunteers and our swimmers prevailed. The kids performed well and had some great time drops. It was great to see many new faces achieving June Age Group Champ and Summer Junior Olympic time standards, especially this early in the long course season!
BMX National Championship. The Ventura Community Park will be hosting the BMX National Championship this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, May 2-4, all day, every day. As such, please be advised that parking could be an issue. Plan accordingly. Also, the BMX group will be charging for parking, but they SHOULD NOT charge swimmers. Simply state you are there for swim practice and you will be allowed to park, but do allow for extra time on these days!
Swim Meet Schedule. Next up for our age group swimmers is the Conejo Simi Memorial Day swim meet at Cal Lu University. This is a great meet because it is hosted at a fast pool and it is a small meet that goes by quickly and efficiently. “Distance only” events are offered on Friday afternoon. Take advantage of being able to swim a long distance event and having nothing else on that same day!
Senior Group swimmers are attending the Speedo Grand Challenge swim meet in Irvine. This is a unique meet, but you must have qualifying times to enter. Both meets are posted online, sign up ASAP. *Reminder, Memorial Day Monday, May 26th, all practices will be in the morning. There are no afternoon workouts. I will send a follow up email with specific group practice times soon, but everything will be in the morning 7-9am.
Annual Recognition Banquet. Mark your calendar for this annual event. This year, the annual recognition banquet will be on a Friday night, May 9th from 7-9pm. It will be hosted in Spirito Hall at Foothill Technology High School. The kids will be given their “collector item” participation pins, and we will again award the volunteer of the year and the coveted McConica Award. Everybody is invited and encouraged to participate to make this a fun event!
