PCS Wavemaker Meet Report

From April 25th-27th the Hollyburn Hurricanes had team of 21 members compete at the Wavemaker in Victoria.

The team included: April Barnes, Morgan Bender, Quincy Bender, Jade Clement, Sidney Clement, Amanda Haigh, Abbey Heard, Carly Kagna, Shona Kelly, Avery Kirstiuk, Skyler O’Connor, Grace Robertson, Marisa Ruus, Sophie Smith, Thomas Dignum, Alex Haigh, Angus Robertson, Gabe Ross-Wilson, Chris Ruus, Kourosh Shahbazi and Adian Smith.  

The swimmers all together earned 107 best times!

Morgan Bender, Quincy Bender, Avery Kirstiuk, Thomas Dignum, Alex Haigh, Angus Robertson, Gabe Ross-Wilson, Chris Ruus, Kourosh Shahbazi and Adian Smith all placed in the top eight in at least one event.

The following swimmers achieved new Provincial Qualifying Times:

A –Skyler O’Connor, Angus Robertson, Grace Robertson, Thomas Dignum, Jade Clement and Shona Kelly

AA – Quincy Bender, Abbey Heard, Avery Kirstiuk and Marisa Ruus

AAA – Morgan Bender, Kourosh Shahbazi, Chris Ruus and Adian Smith

The following swimmers broke club records:

8 and under girls – Sidney Clement – 100 freestyle, 50 and 200 backstroke, 50 and 100 breaststroke

10 and under girls – Morgan Bender – 50, 100, 200 and 400 freestyle and 200 IM

11-12 boys – Aidan Smith – 50 breaststroke

15 and over boys – Chris Ruus – 50 and 100 backstroke

15 and over girls – April Barnes – 50 butterfly

For the older swimmers this meet was about the preparing for the bigger meets coming up at the end of the summer. The focus for them was to refine both their technical and racing skills so that they can compete at their best when they are at this summer’s championship meets.

For the younger swimmers this was an incredible experience for them to race in a world class pool with all of them coming away with great individual performances.
