The Springfield Family Y, Swim Coaches, and swimmers wish to express the HUGE THANKS to Kendra Crew for a great evening on Monday, May 19th. Once again, another super example of a "Y Champion" by giving back to our Y and SPY kids by caring & volunteering. You truly have to appreciate people who still want our Y's Youth Competitive Swim program to be outstanding.
SPY Alum, Shawnee High School Grad, and University of Kentucky's now sophomore Student-Athlete, Kendra Crew actually drove back from Lexington on Sunday evening to spend time with our swimmers. She spent time talking and working with kids from age 8 through 18. The girl demostrated breaststroke drills in the pool for the kids plus offered feedback to them. Oh yeah, she was getting wet and providing great strokework for speed in her specialty- breaststroke. It was awesome watching our kids see her swim and listen to her.
She will be training at UK during the summer. Her goal is to achieve a Olympic Trial Time Standard Cut for 2016. Besides fast horses and great basketball, Kentucky has dedicated and hard working swimmer from Ohio... Kendra Crew!
Our team is blessed by so many SPY Alumni who support and give back
to our Springfield Family Y in so many different ways. Again, Thank
you to everyone who cares for our Y kids.
Kendra has just finished her freshman collegiate swimming year with UK with her specialty in breaststroke & individual medley events. Kentucky's coaching staff were really impressed by her performance as a freshman: one of the few team finalist at the SEC Swim & Dive Championship and set a NEW UK Team Record in 200 Breaststroke 2:13.01. Kendra will spend this summer at UK attending classes and training with UK's swim club. This past short course season, Kendra Crew achieved her US OPEN/National Time Standard Cut in breaststroke. So, this coming August, she will be competing at the 2014 Phillips 66 Summer National Championship in Irvine, California with swimmers like MarGO Geer, Michael Phelps, Missy Franklin, and Ryan Lochte. As a Shawnee High School swimmer, she was the 2013's 11th ranked high school recruit in Ohio evident by being finalist in High School State Championship & YMCA's National Championship for all 4 high school years. She holds numerous SPY, Shawnee HS, and SWOYSL Swim records. In 2013, she set and holds the OHSAA D2 State Record for 100yd SC Breaststroke with 1:02.57; plus, holds the Ohio Swimming State Record in age group 17-18 & OPEN for 200yd SC Breaststroke.
