This past weekend most of the swimmers from National Group and National Prep participated in the Ohio Senior Circuit Meet in Cincinnati. The first two days of the meet through us some cold weather that really put our athletes out of their comfort zone. This forced many swimmers to start thinking of the little things such as staying warm prior to a race. The speed of the meet (in terms of time lines) was very fast causing swimmers to again think outside the box of normalcy when it came time to warm-up for events. I was pleased to see some changes by the third day of the meet but it was a struggle to get the swimmers out of their normal thinking. No matter how many times we explained to them to stay dressed until moments before the event we still saw swimmers standing behind the blocks in a towel and an unzipped jacket or sweatshirt.
This meet still was not focused on overall results. We did have some best times during the weekend but overall we were working on a lot of race strategy (Going out fast) and racing the competition. Looking back at the meet we did a good job of racing the competition. Through 75% of the race. Next up is adding the last 25%
Congratulations to both the boys and the girls this weekend on winning the meet pretty easily. This was with giving up nearly 300 points to start because we did not enter 200 Free or 200 Medley Relays.
