NOVA Swimmers have Junior National Performances at Grand Challenge

With the passing of another Memorial Day weekend and the subsequent NOVA hosted SPEEDO Grand Challenge, the Novaquatics can look back on the weekend and be proud of the performances turned in by its members.

There were several memorable swims among the meet’s competition and the NOVA Swimmers, a few notable to mention would be swims from Hunter Hitchens whose 4:05.72 in the 400 Freestyle qualifies him for his first Winter Junior National event. Teammate Owen Kao also swam the same event with a 4:06.65 which now ranks both boys 1st and 4th in the country respectively for their age-group.  Hunter’s other notable swim came from the 200 freestyle in which he lowered his own team record from a 1:58.23 to 1:57.69.

Joe Lastelic improved over 6 seconds in the 1500 freestyle to get his Summer Junior National.  Joe’s performance will add to the ever increasing roster of Junior National swimmers representing NOVA this summer.

Rounding out our Junior National performances would be Stephen Marcin who achieved his summer junior national cuts in the 200 meter and 400 meter freestyle events with a 1:54.43, and 4:03.19.  Stephen has already qualified for Junior Nationals with his short course swims, but has now qualified with long course performances.  Also Stephen qualified for Winter Junior Nationals in the 100 free with a 52.79.

Next on the calendar for our Senior swimmers is the Swim Meet of Champions hosted by Mission Viejo, the Los Angeles Invitational, Summer Sectionals, and Senior and Junior Nationals to round out the summer in Irvine.
