Fantastic Open Water Nationals!
FAST had a great weekend of racing at the 2014 Open Water National Championships.  Both races were held at Lake Castaic here in Southern California.  FAST highlights are below.  Complete results can be viewed here.

Simon Lamar and Jerad Kaskawal competed in the 10K race on Friday.  In an uncharacteristic American race, the men started out at a very fast pace completing the first 5K around the 54-minute mark.  For the second half of the race, Jerad hung with a smaller second pack that broke off from the top group and finished 21st overall (5th for 18 & Under) with a time of 1:55:49.  Simon finished 26th overall (7th for 18 & Under) in 1:58.04.  Jerad's 18 & Under finish earned him a spot on the 2014-2015 National Junior Team which is comprised of the fastest six 18 & Under swimmers in each Olympic event.
Sidney Kao joined Simon and Jerad for the 5K race on Sunday.  Jerad hung with the lead pack for the duration of the race and finished 13th overall in 55:44.97.  Simon led a smaller second pack and broke away on the final lap to finish 16th overall in 57:06.67.  Sidney finished 36th overall in 59:28.34, a great finish time for his first-ever National race.  Jerad and Simon earned spots on the U.S. team that will compete in this summer's 2014 FINA World Junior Open Water Championships in Eilat, Israel.  This will be the first Team USA trip for both swimmers.

Congratulations to Simon, Sidney, Jerad, and Coach Brown on a great weekend!
