Records and Junior National Performances at JAGS

The recent June Age-Group Champions hosted by the Novaquatics were highlighted by several records, Junior National qualifiers, and best times.

Most notable was the Fearsome Foursome of Owen Kao, Justin Nguyen, Kevin Tu, and Hunter Hitchens, who combined to better the National Age-Group record in the 800 M Freestyle Relay by nearly four seconds to a new time of 8:00.81.  In the process, Owen Kao used his lead-off split to set a new team record in the 13-14 boy’s 200 Freestyle with a 1:56.51.

The same boys also came together to set the SCS record in the 400 M Freestyle previously held by their Novaquatic’s predecessors from 1998, which included two future Olympians, by .4 seconds to a new time of 4:43.00.

In addition, the four boys of Nguyen, Andrew Koustik, Hitchens and Kao came together to improve the team record in the 200 M Medley Relay with a new time of 1:56.55.

Not to be out done, the relay team of Aileen Pham, Melodie Pugar, Carolyn Nguyen and Lindsay Ervin came together to break 17 year old team record for the 10-under 200 M Relay with a new time 2:20.81.

Lastly, congratulations to Owen Kao, who qualified for his first Winter Junior National event in the 400 M Freestyle with a time of 4:05.42, a time that currently ranks him first in the country for this event.
