Mason Manta Rays Mid-Summer Meet Recaps

Kicking off the 2014 season was the Clippers Artic Splash, held May 2nd-4th. The Manta Rays came home with a second place finish overall, behind the host team of the Clippers, and also 250 best times.

Over the weekend, there were several event winners. Terry Tao won the boy 13-14 200 breaststroke, 50 freestyle, 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. Emily Yu came home with a victory in the girls 11-12 50 freestyle and 50 breaststroke . In the boys 11-12 age group, Adam Chaney won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke. In the 10 and unders, Jessey Li claimed the girls 50 breaststroke. And wrapping up the individuals win for Mason was Kierstyn Cassidy in the girls 13-14 200 freestyle.

Later on in May, the Manta Rays split up and covered ground at two local meets May 16th-18th. The younger age groups attended the Wildcat Aquatics Derby Classic in Lexington, while the older Rays stayed local and competed at PCY’s Senior Circuit event.

At the Derby Classic, the Rays came home with over 100 best times. The event winner of the weekend was Landon Schehr in the boys 8 and under 50 backstroke. Other top eight finishers included Kara Alexander, Kierstyn Cassidy, Kylie Decker, Nicholas Diangelo, Lauren Fries, McKenzie Grau, Frank Jones, Puran Kansakar, Sahan Kansakar, Brandon Meyers, Amanthi Ranatunga, Maggie Sattler, Megan Schoenlein, Lauren Thomas, Ian Van Gorp, Sophie Wang and Grace Zhang.  Landon Schehr and Megan Schoenlein  were the high point winners for the 8 & under boys and girls respectively.

At the outdoor meet at PCY, Zoe Thatcher claimed several event titles of the meet weekend. She won the women’s 200 freestyle, 400 IM, 200 IM, 400 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Ashley Volpenhein also had a victory that weekend in the 100 freestyle. Plus, the Rays claimed many relay titles, including the women’s and men’s 200 freestyle relays, women’s 800 freestyle relay and women’s 200 medley relay. Overall, the Rays finished second in the team title for the weekend.

Early June, the Rays swam at Miami University for the CAC Annual Summer Classic. Over 600 best times were achieved by our swimmers! Plus the Rays walked away with the combined team title, and the women’s and men’s team titles for the meet.

 Hannah Whiteley in the women’s 100 backstroke and 50 backstroke

Adam Chaney in the boys 11-12 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 400 freestyle, 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke and 100 freestyle
Jessey Li in the girls 9-10 50 breaststroke
Michael Zuo in the boys 8 & under 50 breaststroke, 50 butterfly and 50 backstroke
Lauren Fries in the girls 11-12 400 freestyle
Megan Wang in the girls 13-14 100 breaststroke
 

Wrapping up the Rays meets through the middle of June was the David Webb Invitational at the Clippers June 13th-15th. Our swimmers established 350 new best times for the season, plus we had three event winners from Adam Chaney (11-12 50 backstroke), Allison Bloebaum (13-14 200 freestyle), Carl Bloebaum (10 & under 100 freestyle, 50 butterfly, 100 backstroke), and Sahan Kansakar (10 & under 50 breaststroke).

Other top three finishes were from Keith Enrico, Kara Alexander, Puran Kansakar, Grace Zhang, Jessey Li, Emily Yu, Kara Alexander, Stephanie Schoenlein, Mia Lee and Olivia Potter.

Through this point in the summer season, we now have 36 Individual Junior Olympic Qualifiers. Those swimmers include:

The RAYS conclude the long course invitational meet schedule this weekend as 34 swimmers go to Greensboro, NC for the Eastern Classic.
