BC AA Provincial Championships Meet Report

From June 20th-22nd the Hollyburn Hurricanes had 5 team members compete at the BC AA Provincial Championships.

The team included: Abbey Heard, Shona Kelly, Avery Kirstiuk, Skyler O’Connor and Marisa Ruus.

CJ Brant was the coach of the team at the competition and was impressed by all five girls. His comments are below:

For all five it was their first AA trials.

Abby Heard made 2 finals in her best events the 100 and 200 backs. She placed 5th and took off a big chunk of time in the process.

Shona Kelly did almost all best times and had excellent swims in the 400 and 800 free.

Unfortunately Skyler was sick and was unable to swim on one day while she toughed out a few races on the other days.

Marisa was just getting back in the water after a school trip but she was able to equal or be very close to her personal bests.

Finally Avery was on track to make her 2nd AAA time in the 200 breast but she had a mishap swallowing some water which caused a stroke infraction.

Not every meet can go according to plan but everything is a learning experience and AA's was just that. We look forward to great things from these girls next season.

The team came away with 12 best times in total.

Congratulations to all of the swimmers who attended the BC AA Provincial Championships.
