Oakland Undercurrent CBA+ Long Course Swim Meet June 14-15, 2014
We had some impressive early-season long course swims at the June 14-15 swim meet! On day one of the meet, Cynthia Le was a workhorse, swimming four events and equaling personal bests in the 50m fly and getting a new long course best time in the 400m free.  Roxane Abad swam the 400m free as well – and for the first time!  She shows great potential in this event.  Britney Eng continued the trend of racing tough events for the first time, doing very well swimming the 100m fly long course.  Selena Lopez had great swims, especially her gutsy 200m breast.  Monica Gong led the way as the elder-statesmen, turning in an great 200m backstroke.  Rodrigo Abad and Andrew Davis represented the boys’ side.  Rodrigo dropped almost nine seconds in his 200m breast, and Andrew will be gunning to go sub-one minute next time in his 100m free.
On day two, Rodrigo Abad represented East Bay Aquatics proudly by almost breaking the EBAT record for the 200m IM and winning the 50m free event in his 11-12 age group. Andrew Davis shows great promise in backstroke as he took off strong in the event and dominated his heat. Monica Gong stayed consistent as she was just off her best times in the 50m free and 100m back. Britney Eng is always dependable when it comes to swimming those tough events such as the 200m breaststroke. She shaved off a second and a half from her entry time, further proving she is a natural born breaststroker. Cynthia Le had an exciting 50m free breaking the 31 second barrier with a 30.96 and finally achieving that JO cut again for the first time in over a year! By far the most exciting race of the day was Roxana Abad’s and Charlize Lim’s 50m free, same heat and adjacent lanes. The entire length of the race the girls were neck and neck even, both wanting to beat each other out, only to TIE at the finish both with a time of 34.83!!! The excitement from races like that is what its all about! Way to go Bat Rays!
