Swim Team Coaching Announcement

Dear Parent(s):

I am writing to update you on the coaching line up for the Hollyburn Hurricanes for the coming year. After a successful 2013/14 season we stepped back and evaluated the direction of the team, and sought the input of the Swim Committee and a number of other parents.   The Swim Team has undergone a number of changes in its coaching staff over the past four years, and we appreciate your support and patience throughout this process.  The Committee and I also appreciate all the feedback you’ve provided to us over the past few months on the direction of the team and wanting to meet the goals of the swim team athletes.

CJ Brant has been with the team for almost two full years now, and has brought strength and opportunity to our young team.  We are in the process of building the staff team to complement his coaching style.

We are pleased to announce that Brad Hutton has been hired as the new full time, Head Assistant Coach. Brad has over 18 years coaching experience working with programs such as the Canadian Dolphins, Vancouver Pacific and St. John's. Brad's swimmers have broken hundreds of club records, dozens of Provincial records and his teams have won their respective Provincial championships. Recently he has had swimmers on the Canada Games team as well as the youth Olympics. His teams are known for having great camaraderie. His knowledge and expertise with young swimmers will bring a different variety of skills and will be an incredible asset to the Hurricanes Swim Team.  CJ and Brad have worked together in the past and will bring effectiveness and leadership to the pool deck.  Both are committed to the long range athlete development model that leads to building champions, and with their wealth of knowledge, we anticipate a very successful program here at Hollyburn.  Brad will work primarily with our younger swimmers.

Jeff Grace and Carrie Matheson will be stepping down and not returning next season.  I want to express my thanks to both Jeff and Carrie for their contributions to the team.    Jeff started as Head Coach back in 2006 and established the base of the team that exists today.   Carrie has worked with hundreds of young swimmers, a number of whom have gone on to be very successful senior swimmers.

While it seems a long way off, the Fall swim season starts in early September, and you will have a chance to meet Brad in person.  He will be a strong addition to the team.  In the meantime, if you have any questions or would like any clarifications, please don’t hesitate to contact the Head Coach: [email protected] or myself, [email protected].

Thank you,

Joanna Hayes
