DCST Exterminates the River Rats

            The Kishwaukee YMCA / DeKalb County Swim Team (DCST) defeated the Geneva River Rats at their last dual meet of the season on Tuesday, July 15.  With the 383 – 325 point victory, DCST finished the season with a 4 – 2 dual meet record.  As a team, DCST swam okay with 120 personal lifetime best times out of a total of a 354 swims for an improvement rate of 34%.

            After each meet, the coaching staff picks two swimmers, one girl and one boy, as the “Big Dogs" of the meet. Big Dogs are not only selected on their performance in the meet, but the coaches also take into consideration the swimmer’s practice attendance, work ethic, team spirit and sportsmanship. For this meet, Millie Gidaszewski, age 6, and Colin Purcell, age 15, were selected as Big Dogs of the meet.

            The following 35 swimmers had an excellent meet with at least two best individual times in the meet:   Dillon Anderson, David Beaty, Jake Bjork, Gabriella Bothe, Nathan Braun, Joanna Burnham, Trinity Eissens, Kathryn Fredrickson, Millie Gidaszewski, Adam Goelitz, Brayden Goff, Gregory Harrelson, Kylie Heck, Sarah Hein, Emma Heinisch, Evan Johnson, Noah Johnson, Sarah Larson, Josephine McMahon, Mason Miller, Collin Moon, Aiden Page, Colin Purcell, Emily Raetzke, Bradley Ruetten, Gabi Smith, Rylan Smith, Elizabeth Steckel, Kevin Sullivan, Libby Swedberg, Mazie Sweers, Tyler Theis, Calvin VanderSchee, Ritta Wi and Andrew Wu.

            DCST’s postseason begins this Saturday (July 19th) with the “A” Conference Championship at Woodstock.  DCST is looking to claim its fourteenth consecutive conference title.
