Call for Volunteers !! Bellingham Bay Marathon

It is that time of year again to gear up for the Bellingham Bay Marathon. This year the Marathon will be held on Sunday, September 27th and BBST has again joined forces with the Ranger Soccer Club. This event is one of BBST’s major fundraising events and we need your help.  The sooner you sign up, the less angst exists for the organizers of this event!!  Please help and sign up today!!
The on-line registration form is now available at Log onto the web site and click on the Volunteer Tab. This will pull up the Volunteer page and you can then click on Volunteer form. The form shown at the end of this message will be available for you to fill out on-line. Please do not fill out the form included in this flash, it is an example only. Please also make sure that you put either BBST or Bellingham Bay Swim Team in the “Organization Affiliation” box.  A separate volunteer form needs to be filled out for each person volunteering. Parents, if you are filling out a form for your swimmer please put the swimmers group (Novice, Junior, etc.) and age on race day in the “Remarks Section”. This will allow us to place your swimmer in an age appropriate position if a specific position is not indicated.  If there is a specific job that you want to volunteer for, or specific people you would like to work with on race day, please also place that in the Remarks section.  Accommodation to these requests will be attempted. 
Flaggers are always needed – this does require additional training prior to race day.  If you are a trained Flagger and would like to volunteer as such on race day please indicate in “Special Skills or Training” that you are a Qualified Flagger. If you would like to be a Flagger and are not yet trained please indicate in the Remarks section, the hours required for training will also count toward your annual family service requirement total.  A flagging training class has been scheduled for September 19th, so if you can volunteer to flag, and need the training, then please make note of this date.  Flaggers are required to be adults. (note, flagger certification is good for three years). 
BBST will be required to provide six Zone Managers or Captains, these positions are also required to be adults and will take more time and commitment than just the day of race tasks, with prior organization time needed.  If you would like to be a Zone Manager please indicate in the “Remarks” box.  These positions need to be filled soon so that the race day organization process goes smoothly - that means, don't delay, sign up today!!
There are many volunteer opportunities to help out, and we simply need as many people helping out as possible.  Last year's race required a total of 700 volunteer positions to staff the event, not all of which are on race day.  Please help with this important fund raising event.  The numbers are on track to exceed our race day numbers from two years ago of over 2,100 participants.  Be a part of this exciting event, and help our team at the same time.
