DCST Swimmer Caitlynn Moon Qualifies for the USA Olympic Trials

USA Swimming recently released a list of the initial swimmers who have qualified for the 2016 USA Swimming Olympic Trials, and for the first team in the history of the Kishwaukee YMCA / DeKalb County Swim Team (DCST), they have a swimmer on the list.  Caitlynn Moon qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 800 meter Freestyle with her time of 8:48.06 from the YMCA National Championship meet held last summer held on July 28 – August 1.  The qualifying time for this event is 8:49.99.

At the YMCA National Championships, Moon was also faster than the qualifying time in the 400 meter Freestyle.  Caitlynn went 4:16.78 in this event, and the qualifying time was 4:17.99.  However, all times must be achieved as July 30, 2014, and this event was held one day earlier (July 29).  The qualifying period for the Olympic Trials will remain open until June 2016, so Caitlynn will have additional opportunities to qualify in this event, too.

Moon will also have a great chance in qualifying in a third event.  Her career best in the 200 meter Freestyle (2:02.62) is only 0.23 seconds off the trial qualifying time.  The YMCA National Championship Meet was Caitlynn’s last meet with DCST as an age group swimmer.  At this meet, she won three individual National Titles, and set 2 National Records.  Last fall, she began her freshman year of college, and she is currently swimming for Texas A&M University.

The USA Swimming Olympic Trials will be held in Omaha, Nebraska on June 26 – July 3, 2016.
