162 Lifetime Bests & 2 Team Records at Distance Dogfight!
FAST swimmers posted 162 lifetime bests at the Distance Dogfight last Saturday. The meet provided an opportunity for many first-time swims in the 800 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle, especially for 12 & Under swimmers. Major toughness points to all 104 swimmers for racing multiple events in a short period of time, especially the Senior group swimmers who raced all 5 events! Team highlights are below. Thirty-four athletes swam best times in all of their races: Catherine Campbell, Megan Casaday, Cole Chang, Kyle Chang, Riggs Darvin, Josh De Leon, Jeremy Duong, Justin Fiene, Ryan Friedman, Noah Handel, Dakota Keyworth, Brandon Kim, Daniel Kim, Jackson Lambros, Nicholas Lambros, Robert Lee, Joy Lim, Josh Miller, Jake Ngo, Raine Parker, Joyce Pau, Tori Portillo, Sebastian Rhee, Andrew Salladin, Ashley Sanchez, Eileen Seo, Kendall Smith, Joshua Spessert, Amanda Tang, Melusine Tenkoff, Angelina Thomas, Elizabeth Timmerman, Liliana Vasquez, and Christopher Wang. Makena Ditsworth kicked off the meet with a team record in the 1500 Freestyle. Her time of 18:24.74 was a 9-second drop and she eclipsed the previous team record by more than 22 seconds! Teammate Leah Johnson set the previous record of 18:47.09 in March 2014. Makena's time moves her to first in the country in that event for 2015. Alex Kowalski set a new team record in the 400 Freestyle with his lifetime best 5:13.63. The previous record of 5:15.20 was set by Dylan Nelson in April 2010. Alex's time ranks second in the country in that event for 2015. Congratulations to Makena and Alex on this great progress!
Sophia Gaitatjis had the largest time drop of the meet cutting more than 1 minute and 11 seconds off of her 1500 time. Josh De Leon had the largest drop on the men's side and the largest drop in the 400 distance finishing in 5:12.31, a drop of over 51 seconds. Katie Cho cut 49 seconds in the 800 Free, the largest drop in that event. She touched in a lifetime best 10:08.48. Kyle Chang had the largest drop in the 200 distance cutting 37 seconds off of his previous lifetime best from February's LCM Season Starter Meet. Kyle swam the 200 in 3:24.92. Kyle's brother Cole had the largest drop in the 100 distance with his drop of 15 seconds. Cole swam a lifetime best 1:44.08.
Other huge drops of 10 seconds or more were achieved by Josh De Leon (14.65 seconds in 200 Free), Ethan Dickinson (21.65 seconds in 1500 Free), Ryan Friedman (17.74 seconds in 200 Free), Angela Gaitatjis (17.16 seconds in 400 Free), Joy Lim (29.03 seconds in 400 Free), Naina Makkad (25.92 seconds in 200 Free), Manon Miura (15.77 seconds in 800 Free), Andrew Salladin (10.03 seconds in 200 Free and 10.18 seconds in 100 Free), Joshua Spessert (17.21 seconds in 400 Free), Myles Tran (15.73 seconds in 400 Free), Aaron Yang (33.25 seconds in 400 Free), Baron Yang (16.03 seconds in 400 Free), and Kaitlyn Yee (16.19 seconds in 400 Free).
