January 20, 2009
This is the MAC News for Tuesday, January 20th.
Congratulations to everyone who competed at the RAC Classic this past weekend. MAC had 3 swimmers take home blue ribbons. Lauren James took top honors in the 11-12 girls 50 fly, 200 back, 100 free, and 200 breast. Sean O'Connell touched first in the 9-10 boys 50 fly and 100 IM. Finally, Sydney Williams brought home the gold in the 11-12 girls 100 IM and 200 fly. Way to go!
If your family has not yet signed up to volunteer for the Robert J Hogan Memorial Meet and fulfill its two session meet volunteer commitment, please contact Helene Williams at either email@example.com at 301-607-6475 ASAP to avoid being billed an additional $75. We are in need of clean-up help on Sunday after the meet, volunteers with Meet Manager experience for both Saturday and Sunday morning, as well as people to fill several other scattered positions.
Ads for the Hogan meet program are due to the Washabaugh folder by TOMORROW.
Friday, at 6:00 pm, is the deadline for entries and fees for the GBSA Last Chance State Championship Qualifying meet ( www.mdswim.org/Top_Nav/Meets/2008-2009_Schedule_Results/GBSA_Last_Chance_State_Championship_Qualifying_Meet.htm).
If you haven't done so yet, please consider stopping by the bubble to sign the petition voicing your opposition to the closing of the three FCPS swimming pools. If these pools are closed, MAC will lose its venue for the Hogan Meet, our greatest source of fundraising revenue, as well as our back up practice venues. This petition is not being used to change a law or in any legal proceedings, therefore, you do NOT need to be 18 or older to sign.
It has been pointed out to us that there is a blog site in the Frederick County News Post under the Sports section for high school swimmers. If there is a MAC swimmer who also swims high school that might be interested in giving "reporting" a try, this may be another good place to address the pool closing/swimming cancellation issues. We're not sure of all the details, other than the fact that the blog author must be a high school student who swims.
The practice schedule for today is normal - Senior Red and Black from 4:00-6:15, Senior White from 5:45-8:00, Age Group II from 6:00-8:00, and Senior Prep and Masters from 8:00-9:00 all in the bubble. All of the Novice groups will swim in the indoor pool - Novice I from 4:30-5:30, Novice II from 5:30-6:30, and Novice III from 6:30-7:30. There is no practice today for Age Group I. Seniors will have morning practice tomorrow from 5:15-6:30.
