October 22, 2008
This is the MAC News for Wednesday, October 22nd.
The annual Novice Halloween party will be held on Thursday, October 30th from 5:30-6:30 in the indoor pool in place of practice. Swimmers are asked to wear their Halloween costumes to practice. There will be a costume parade in the bubble, games and activities, as well as food. The coaches are asking that swimmers with last names beginning with A-J bring some type of snack (chips, dips, fruit, veggies, etc.), K-P bring a dessert, and Q-Z bring drinks. Please not bring any food or desserts containing nuts because several of the swimmers are allergic. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Ashley at email@example.com.
There are some practice schedule changes for next Friday, October 31st, due to Halloween. There will be no practice for Age Groups I and II. Senior Red and Black practice will end at 5:30. We're still waiting word about Senior White (information will be posted as soon as it is available). All Senior swimmers are highly encouraged to attend practice that Friday morning (5:15-6:30) in addition to their afternoon practice.
Pools, Patios, and Porches is currently running a Bulk Buy MAC swim suit and apparel order. Order forms were placed in everyone's folder last evening. Remember, while these items are available all year, purchases made during the bulk buy are discounted an ADDITIONAL 10-20% above the normal MAC discount. You may place your order in person at the store or by phone, fax, or e-mail but all orders must be received by Saturday, November 1st.
Don't forget, All RETURNING swimmers must complete the 2009 USA Swimming registration form that was placed in the family folders and return it, along with a $65 check (made payable to MAC), to the Membership/Registration folder no later than Friday, November 7th. Current USA Swimming registrations expire at the end of December and swimmers will not be permitted to compete or attend practice unless their registration is current. Any questions should be directed to Ed Goundry at firstname.lastname@example.org. Swimmers new to MAC are already registered for 2009.
As members of MAC, each family is required to volunteer for at least 2 sessions of the meets we host. MAC cohosts a meet with the Green Terror Aquatic Club in Westminster, MD in December and is the sole host of a mini meet at the Frederick High School in February. These meets are a major source of income for our team. Volunteer obligations may be met at either of these meets or using a combination of the two. We are currently looking for an Assistant Meet Director for the mini meet as well as someone to learn how to act as the Meet Entry Coordinator. The Assistant Meet Director position is a great way to learn how a sanctioned Maryland swim meet is run and a great way to help young swimmers throughout Maryland. For more information about this position, please contact Fred Manning at email@example.com. The Meet Entries Coordinator position's work is done prior to the meet, collecting entries from teams and ensuring that we don't take on too many swimmers. Experience with Hy-Tek's Meet Manager is a plus, but not required. For more information, please contact Liz Brabson at L.Brabson@myactv.net. Be on the lookout for more opportunities to volunteer as we get closer to the meets.
The practice schedule for today is normal - Senior Red and Black from 4:00-6:30, Age Group I from 6:00-7:45, and Senior Prep and Masters from 8:00-9:00 all in the bubble. There is no practice today for Senior White, Age Group II, or Novice.
