DCST has 5 Swimmers Named National All-Americans 8 Times on Day 2 of YMCA National Championships

         Day 2 of the YMCA National Championships was an excellent day for DCST.  On the day, DCST had 5 swimmers named National All-American a total of 8 times, and the team set 5 new team records.  Daniel Hein led DCST by earning All-American honors 3 times and setting 3 team records.  Hein swam all three of his events in finals in a span of 1 hour and 10 minutes.  He started his busy evening by joining Jacob Bjork, Dylan Powers and Michael Carlson to go 0.2 seconds faster in the 200 meter Medley Relay than the previous night.  By finishing in 9th place, all four swimmers were National All-Americans.  This was the first time Carlson has achieved this honor in his career, and he is the 40th swimmer in DCST history to do so.

         Hein’s second event of the evening was the 200 meter Backstroke where he finished 2nd.  On the day, Daniel was 2.3 seconds on under his previous best time and team record.  Next, he took home another 2nd place finish when he lowered his best time and team record in the 100 meter Butterfly by 1.1 seconds.  Daniel has now been name a National All-American 29 times in his career.  Bjork was also named National All-American multiply times on Tuesday.  He earned his 2nd such honor in the 200 meter Breaststroke.  His 3.4 seconds time drop broke the previous DCST record by 1.3 seconds.  His 11th place finish in this event was the 5th time in his career that he achieved All-American status.  On the female side, Athena Ye had an exceptional swim in finals lowering her team record in the 13 – 14 year old age group by 3 seconds and placing 9th.  By being named a National All-American in this event, she has now earned this honor 3 times in her career.

         Also on Tuesday, Hein, Bjork, Carlson and Powers also swam the 200 meter Freestyle Relay 3.8 seconds under their seed time.  Daniel’s lead-off split of 24.47 was a new DCST team record.  The relay placed 22nd.  Other career best times for DCST on the day were:  Jensen Keck (2.2 seconds in the 200 meter Breaststroke), Dylan Powers (1 second in the 100 meter Butterfly) and Sarah Hein (0.1 seconds in the 200 meter Backstroke).  In time trials, Mallory Pitstick was an amazing 4.8 seconds under her best in the 200 meter Breaststroke, while Austin Bockman was 0.4 seconds under his best in the 200 meter Backstroke.  So far, DCST has 12 career best times out of 15 swims for an outstanding 80% improvement rate.  They team has also set a total of 6 new team records.
