September 3, 2008
Today is Wednesday, September 3rd and this is the MAC News.
Welcome back after a brief summer break! Below is
the agenda for tonight’s Board Meeting. As many of you
know, we had an unprecedented interest in our club with numerous
swimmers coming to our try-outs. The primary focus of the meeting
will be to discuss the club’s growth and how we meet the
needs of existing/new swimmers, family questions, coaching/practice
logistics, and our tenet responsibilities at
The growth of our club is a good thing; but it will require balancing a number of priorities and improved organization. We want to make sure all families have a great MAC experience and receive the high-level of coaching that our club is known for.
The meeting will take place at 6:30 pm in the NEW offices of Varner and Goundry, 121 E. Patrick St. in downtown Frederick. The new office is on the other side of Patrick Street, a little past the Library on the other side of the street (same side as Bean and Bagel; and the Tea Room).

The meet notice for the ASC Freestyle meet
www.mdswim.org/Assets/Meet+Page/Meet+Notices/08-09/ASC+Freestyle+Meet.doc), Oct. 3-5 in Annapolis, will be posted very soon. October seems like a very long way away at this point, however, this meet fills up quickly and we must get our entries in early to ensure attendance at the meet. The deadline will most likely be sometime next week so be on the lookout.
Don’t forget, if you are a current official or are interested in becoming a USA Swimming certified official - the Annual Maryland Swimming Officials Clinic will take place on Sunday, September 21st from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm at UMBC. This is a must for all current officials to maintain their eligibility. It is also the place to be if you are interested in becoming an official. Everyone should plan to be in attendance at 8:00 am. There will be separate break out sessions for each level of official as in years past but there will be changes to the program. More information will be available soon on the Maryland Swimming website, www.mdswim.org.
A quick reminder about parking at Hood. Parking on campus is reserved strictly for students, faculty, and staff. MAC families MAY NOT park on campus for any reason. You must use street parking, but also be respectful of local residents. In the past we have been asked to park on the Hood side of Magnolia Avenue between Belmont and 7th St. Also, we need to minimize traffic impacts on campus. This includes not stopping in fire lanes, moving as quickly as possible on and off campus before and after practice, and walking to your parked cars, as opposed to queuing in front of the pools.
The practice schedule for today is as follows - Senior Red and Black from 4:00-5:30 pm and Age Group I from 4:30-6:15 pm BOTH in the outdoor pool at Hood. All other groups are off today.
