April 30, 2008
This is the MAC News for Wednesday, April 30th.
Congratulations are in order for many of our current high-school aged swimmers. A total of 14 of them were named to the Frederick News Post's All-Area Swimming team! This year it was no small feat just to compete for a high school team with the changes that were instituted involving mandatory practice attendance. Three of the four Co-Swimmers of the Year were MAC athletes - Ally Long, Kevin Roeder and Katelyn Rossick. Will Goundry, Jessica Jimenez, Katie Serfling, and Cassie Sorna were named to the First Team. Second Team honorees were Danielle James, Tori Markellos, and Asaph Yeh. Finally, Allie Aparicio, Chris Howard, Amanda Sorna, and Brooke VanDerpoel were all Honorable Mention. What a fantastic accomplishment!
Don't forget, the MAC Banquet is this Sunday, May 4th at 5:30 at Dutch's Daughter. Directions may be found here - www.dutchsdaughter.com/directions.html.
Please be aware that the summer trimester begins TOMORROW and runs through the end of August. Bills will be coming out this week. If you are not planning to train with MAC over the summer, please contact our treasurer, Fred Manning, at firstname.lastname@example.org. If your child is in the water tomorrow, you will be responsible for the entire trimester's dues. The coaching staff highly encourages everyone to continue with the program through the summer!
The bubble will be coming down for the summer on Saturday, May 10th. We will need help from as many of our families as possible, especially our dads and older swimmers. There is prep work that needs to be completed prior to the lowering. If you are able to provide any assistance next Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, please contact Don Feinberg at 301-696-3484.
Roby's Photo Studio will be taking MAC team pictures (both group and individual) on May 20th. Specific times for each training group will be announced soon. This opportunity is open to all swimmers who were part of the team during the 2007-2008 season (even if they do not plan to continue during the upcoming trimester!) The packages are very reasonably priced and part of the cost of each package will be donated back to MAC.
Calling all young swimmers looking for an opportunity for some cross training! Martha Herman, mom to MAC swimmer Emily, is the race director for the TRI-TO-WIN triathlon to be held May 24th at Frederick High and shares this information with us. This non-competitve event, which will benefit the Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation, is open to young people ages 7-13. More information may be found on their website, www.fredericktri.com.
On Saturday, May 31st MAC will be hosting a biathlon fund-raiser to raise awareness for cancer and to help support the Rossick family. All entries, along with the $30 registration fee, are due to Coach Lauren's folder by May 15th. The event is open to all MAC and Hood Hammerhead families, including parents and former swimmers!
The practice schedule for today is normal - Senior Red and Black from 4:00-6:30 and Age Group I from 6:00-7:45 in the bubble. There is no practice today for Senior White, Senior Prep, Age Group II, Novice, or Masters.
