Owen Cuenca and Ashley Hendrawan Final at 14-Under Championships

OWEN CUENCA                                   ASHLEY HENDRAWAN                                 AUDREY TRAN

Eight talented Islander swimmers qualified to compete in Morgan Hill Swim Team's 14-Under Winter Championships (formerly referred to as the Junior Olympics).  The eight swimmers competing this weekend are:

Hannah Boles, age 12

Oliver Cantal, age 12

Owen Cuenca, age 10

Kevin Habek, age 12

Ashley Hendrawan, age 14

Ella Hidalgo, age 12

Sophie Klube, age 12

Audrey Tran, age 12

Owen Cuenca and Ashley Hendrawan finished in the Top 8 of their signature events yesterday - no small feat, considering that Pacific Swimming drastically reduced the qualifying times for this annual meet, and Pacific Swimming's most promising swimmers are in Morgan Hill to compete amongst each other.

Owen finished 5th in the 10-Under Boys 100 Breastroke, touching the wall in 1:22.22.  Ashley completed a tough double yesterday, finishing 8th in the 1000 Free, and 4th in the 200 Fly in 2:10.76 in the 13-14 Girls age group - both personal best times.

Ella Hidalgo and Audrey Tran, both age 12, were consolation finalists (places 9 through 16) - to place in the consolation final is also quite impressive.  Ella placed in three consolation finals:  200 IM, 2:19.57, 50 Fly 28.64, and Ella won the 50 Back consolation final, breaking the 30 second barrier in a swift 29.58 - all personal best times.  Audrey Tran continues to hone her butterfly skills - she placed in the consolation final in the 200 Fly, finishing in a personal best time of 2:27.29.

The 11-12 Girls 200 Medley Relay team, consisting of Ella Hidalgo (backstroke), Sophie Klube (breaststroke), Audrey Tran (butterfly), and Hannah Boles (freestyle), lowered their best relay time to a 2:01.95.

SOPHIE KLUBE, HANNAH BOLES, AND ELLA HIDALGO
