ASHLEY HENDRAWAN, ELLA HIDALGO AND AUDREY TRAN PLACE ON FINAL DAY OF
One of the most memorable moments of the 14-Under Winter Championships, was the Islander swimmers gathering behind the blocks to cheer on teammate Ashley Hendrawan (pictured above) before she swam in her final event. All of the swimmers knew that Ashley fully intended to meet her year-long goal of breaking the one-minute barrier in the 100 Fly, and a determined Ashley didn't disappoint, finishing the race in 59.37, good enough for 2nd Place in the consolation final of that event. As Ashley is 14, this will be the last year that she will be able to compete in this meet, so it was nice that this awesome swim will be her final memory of these championships.
Ella Hidalgo provided her own excitement in the finals, swimming to a personal best time in 100 Back, 1:04.14, and also placing second in the consolation final of her event.
The third Islander finals qualifier on Sunday was Audrey Tran, who also improved her 100 Fly time, and finished in a fast 1:04.93, placing 8th in the consolation final.
Oliver Cantal (pictured below with Owen Cuenca), swam to three personal best times in 50 Fly, 100 IM, and 200 IM. Oliver also qualified to swim 100 Fly.
12 year old Kevin Habek (pictured below, right) swam all three of his events on the first day of the championships: 100 Free, 50 Breast, and 200 IM.
The 11-12 Girls broke their own Alameda Island Aquatics team records in both the 200 Medley Relay, (8th Place) and the 200 Free Relay. The girls, pictured below, are (L-R) Audrey Tran, Sophie Klube, Ella Hidalgo, and Hannah Boles.
Congratulations on a Great Championship Meet, Islanders!
