DCST had a dominating performance in winning the Barb Wire Classic by 1,993.5 points over second place Ottawa.  DCST scored 3,612 points compared to Ottawa’s 1,618.5.  On the day, DCST had 158 new lifetime career best times for an improvement percentage of 45%.  101 out of our 121 swimmers had at least one lifetime best time.

The following 22 swimmers had a perfect day by earning all individual best times on the day:  Tyler Berger, Jacob Bjork, Michael Carlson, Benjamin Changnon, Melissa Cherry, Amanda Cook, Emily Cook, Nolan Fergus, Shane Fergus, Logan Johnson, Jensen Keck, Carson Klein, Caitlynn Moon, Abby Pardridge, Dylan Powers, Amal Tatum, Ella Vietmeier, Grace Waller, Alex Wang, Jenni Weber, Catherine White and Athena Ye.

Some other impressive facts from the meet were:

·          DCST had 8 swimmers who broke 12 meet records.  Grant Alef (2), Nolan Fergus (2), Daniel Hein (2), Athena Ye (2), Grace Fergus (1)Valerie Jones (1) Emily Launer (1), Abby Pardridge (1)

·          DCST’s 12 swimmers who swam a legal breast, fly or IM for the first time.

·          DCST had 25 swims which were faster than the District Qualifying Time for the first time this season.

·          DCST 19 swims which were faster than the Area Qualifying Time for the first time this season.

With so many great swim, the coaching staff had a difficult time selecting only two Big Dogs of the Meet; therefore, we selected 8.  The Big Dogs of the Meet were:

Josie Rivera – Age 7

Wyatt Romero – Age 8

Sarah Hein – Age 9

Collin Moon – Age 10

Amanda Cook – Age 11

Dylan Powers – Age 12

Grace Waller – Age 17

Michael Carlson – Age 13

Congratulations to both the swimmers on their performances and the parents on running a great meet!  With DCST’s next meet not until the David Wolf Invitational in Belvidere on January 3rd, we hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  Even though there are no meets for the next three weeks, this is a great time for training, learning new strokes and improving mechanics.  So please make sure to keep up your practice attendance during the Holiday Season!
