Avery thriving in Bellingham air

BELLINGHAM, WA - Cole Avery's family moved to Bellingham to provide clean air for him, but he's found the water much to his liking, as well.

Avery, a 12-year-old seventh grader at Fairhaven Middle School, has earned a raft of honors with the Bellingham Bay Swim Team. His most treasured honor will be a rare opportunity to take his national rankings in three events to a meet filled with nationally ranked swimmers on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 9-10, in Cerritos, Calif.
From among the hundreds of boys who compete for more than 50 clubs in the 11-12 age group in Western Washington, Avery earned one of eight spots in his division with the Pacific Northwest Swimming All-Star Team, which will compete against all-stars from Oregon and California.
