Hein Wins his 4th Career National Title on Day 2 of the YMCA National Championships

On Day 2 of the YMCA National Championships in Greensboro, NC, Daniel Hein got DCST off to a great start for the week.  He won the 100 yard Butterfly with a time of 47.53 which is his personal best by 0.4 seconds.  This was the 4th time Daniel has been crowned a National Champion in his career.  This swim came only 27 minutes after his first swim of the evening in the 200 yard Backstroke.  He took home a 2nd place in this event by lowering his personal best time by 2.5 on the day.  Both of these events earned him National All-American honors and new DCST team records.  He has now been named a National All-American 35 times in his career which is second on the DCST All-Time list behind only Emily Launer (41 time National All-American).  Daniel’s time in the 200 yard Backstroke was a new Illinois Swimming record for swimmers ages 18 and under by 0.8 seconds.  His time broke the Illinois Swimming Senior record, swimmers of all ages, too.  Daniel's lead off 50 split in the Butterfly was a new DCST team record.

Athena Ye also had an excellent evening for DCST.  She went 1:59.78 in the 200 Backstroke and took home a 19th place finish.  Her time broke her previous team record and personal best by 0.9 seconds.  In time trials, Jensen Keck went a personal best in the 100 yard Butterfly by 0.4 seconds.

Note – Day 1 of the National Championship Meet consisted of the 1000 yard Freestyle events.  DCST didn’t have any entries in these events.
