Hein Takes 100 Back with National Record on Day 3 of the YMCA National Champs

Daniel Hein continued to excel at the YMCA National Championships by winning the 100 yard Backstroke and breaking the previous National record by 0.26 seconds.  The previous record was one of the oldest records in the meet which was originally set 16 years ago. On the day, Daniel’s final time of 47.08 was 0.7 seconds lower than his previous personal best time.  His time was also a new Illinois Swimming record for swimmers ages 18 and younger and a new DCST team record.  His leadoff split of 22.77 was also a DCST record for the 50 yard Backstroke.  This was his 5th national title and DCST’s 15th as a team.  He also was named a National All-American for the 36th time in his career.

Athena Ye continues to swim extremely well this week by earning National All-American honors for the 7th time in her career with a 6th place finish in the 100 yard Backstroke.  Her preliminary time of 54.80 was a new DCST team record.  On Wednesday, Athena also teamed up with Jensen Keck, Sarah Hein and Camryn Anderson to lower their seed time by 2.6 seconds in the Women’s 200 yard Medley Relay.  Athena’s lead-off split of 25.64 was a new DCST team record.   Riley Lohse was 0.3 seconds under his personal best in the 100 yard Backstroke with his time of 53.86.  In time trials, Austin Bockman went a personal best in the 100 yard Backstroke by a whopping 1.9 seconds.  His time was under the National Qualifying time, and he will now be able to swim this event in the regular meet at the YMCA Summer National Championships.
