A message from Special Olympics of MA:Volunteers are the backbone of Special Olympics Massachusetts.Volunteers enable SOMA to offer sports training and competition to over 11,000athletes in the state of Massachusetts on a year-round basis. This assistance ultimately helps the organization develop individuals with intellectual disabilities into healthy and health-conscious athletes. SOMA could not exist without the tremendous support of our many dedicated volunteers.Volunteers include students, business people, family members of athletes, corporate teams and many others. Volunteers fill a wide variety of roles for Special Olympics programs through coaching, as members of event planning committees, by fundraising, and as timekeepers, officials, special events volunteers, and a variety of other roles at local, regional, and state-wide events.
