West Coast Open Recap

West Coast Open Meet Recap

West Coast Open was a successful long course training meet for our swimmers with an A time standard. The swimmers worked on their race strategy as they prepared for meets in the next few weeks.

We did have some great racing with improved speed off of the blocks and more stroke rate which have been two main focuses. Cami led the way with all best times and her first AA time standard in the 200m Individual Medley! She just needs one more to qualify for AA Championships in Kamloops June 24-26th! Sidney broke her last 10&under record in the 100m Butterfly as she now turned 11 after a very impressive run through our 10&under record board. Congratulations to Marla as well who raced at her first swim meet as a Hurricane, it was great to have her on deck as a part of the team.

We have three big weekends coming up for our team. This weekend ten of our swimmers will race at the Hyack Festival Youth Cup, a top age group meet that swimmers need AAA time standards to qualify. May 27-29th weekend has Chris Ruus, Sophie Smith and Avery Kirstiuk competing at the Mel Zajac International Swim Meet at UBC. Both Sophie and Avery are at their first Senior Canadian level swim meet! That same weekend we have 26 swimmers racing at the Whistler Seawolves Invitational. June 4-5 is LMR Championships for our swimmers working towards their Provincial A and AA times standards. Finally we will be hosting our last Development Meet of the year on Sunday, June 5th for all of our Discover and Dream swimmers!
