Hyack Festival Youth Cup Review
This was our first time attending the Hyack Festival Youth Cup and it was a great experience for our team. The meet is one of the stronger age group meets of the year with visiting teams from Calgary, Edmonton, Seattle and Portland as well as many teams from the lower mainland. It was a challenging meet as our swimmers have been training and racing a lot lately. There were a lot of positives as we almost always moved up in the standings with strong racing and more experience in long course swimming.
Congratulations to Durban who needed on more AAA time standard to qualify for Swim BC Long Course AAA Championships and he swam to two more times in the 200m Breaststroke (3:31.72) and the 50m Freestyle (33.79)! Lucas also swam to his second AAA time standard in the 50m Freestyle with a time of 29.86 and now just needs one more to qualify for the meet!
Avery had an amazing 200m Breaststroke finishing with a time of 2:49.12! The swim qualified her for Western Canadian Championships next year!
Chris raced to silver medals in both the 100m Backstroke and 200m Backstroke! Chris also finished 4th in the 50m Freestyle and 5th in the 100m Freestyle as well as consolation finals in the 100m Butterfly and 200m Freestyle. Aidan finished with a bronze medal in the 50m Freestyle, 4th in both the 200m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke and 6th in the 100m Freestyle. Aidan also raced consolation finals in the 100m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley events. Avery raced to a third place finish in the 200m Breaststroke and won the consolation final in the 100m Breaststroke. Morgan made consolation finals at the bottom of her 12-13 year old age group in the 100m Freestyle and 50m Freestyle. Lucas reached a consolation final in the 50m Freestyle.
This weekend we have three swimmers (Chris, Avery and Sophie) racing at the Mel Zajac International Swim Meet at UBC as well as 27 swimmers racing at the Whistler Seawolves Invitational.
