Hyack Fall Into Finals Review

16 Hurricanes swimmers were ready to race this past weekend as we competed at the Fall Into Finals Meet in Coquitlam. The swimmers covered off most of their events over the past few meets and had an opportunity to race their main events in a heats and finals competition. We raced to 80% best times at the meet, great swimming a week after another training meet! With Jade, Sidney, Josh and Aidan racing to 100% personal bests across nine events. Swimmers are starting to race to qualification times for SwimBC AAA and AA Provincial Championships. Congratulations to Josh who swam to his second AA time standard in the 200m Freestyle to fully qualify for SC AA Championships in February! Aidan raced to his first two AAA time standards in the 14-15 year old age group, while both Sidney and Quincy added events for AAA Championships!

We started the meet off with incredible distance swimming highlighted by Morgan breaking 10 minutes in the 800m Freestyle for the first time by a female Hollyburn swimmer with a time of 9:55! Quincy was not far behind with a 10:01! Jade dropped 53 seconds off her best 800 and Sidney took 45 seconds off of hers! Thomas had an outstanding 1500 racing 52 seconds off of his previous best time!

Our mid-distance training and racing is really improving. The 400s were just as strong with big drops in the 400m Freestyles by Morgan, Quincy, Jade, Sidney, Josh, Thomas (27 sec off!), Avery (23 sec off!), Lucas (61 sec off!) and Sophie (first time under 5:00!). Everyone who swam the 400m IM also raced to a best time, highlighted by Sophie dropping 32 seconds to a time of 5:33! Thomas and Quincy had big breakthroughs in the 200m Fly as well racing to times of 2:38 and 2:43. Sophie, Avery and Jessica all had very strong 200m Breaststrokes racing to bests of 2:45, 2:46 and 2:54.

So far this year we have broken 15 team records, last season we only had 10 at this point. Congratulations to Jessica (50m Fly, 50m Back, 50m Brst), Morgan (100m Free, 400m Free, 800m Free), Quincy (50m Fly, 200m Fly), Sophie (100m Brst, 200m Brst, 200m IM, 400m IM), Aidan (100m Brst) and Marisa (800m Free)!

We are at a really good position for this time of year. Looking back at best times from November last year it seems like we are a completely different team. The Hurricanes look very strong at meets this season, racing to win heats and qualifying for a lot more finals. We had a very successful swim season following our racing and training last year so we can expect even greater things this year! Next up for swimmers in Excel and Challenge is the Pointe-Claire Invitational, December 8-11 or the Haney LMR December 10-11.
