CDSC Invitational Review

CDSC Meet Review

The Hurricanes competed at the CDSC New Year’s Invitational to start 2017 with very impressive results for a training meet this early after our break. The focus was on racing off events for most swimmers at the meet, a chance to race some different strokes and distances than we had been working on at the end of our last training cycle. We have been training basic skills such as kicking farther off the walls, speeding up into turns and managing our speed throughout races. Everyone had some strong performances throughout the meet and we will take what we learned from racing and put it into practice going forward.

Aidan led the way racing to four new AAA time standards, fully qualifying him with six events for SC AAA Championships! Aidan also set six new team records, CDSC Invitational records in the 50m and 100m Freestyle events as well as raced to the top swimmer award in the 13-14 male category!

Keala had a fantastic swim in the 50m Freestyle, reaching her first AA time standard and setting a new 10&under team record in the event!

Cami also set her first team record in the 50m Backstroke!

Morgan had fantastic 200m IM setting a new team record and adding her sixth event at AAA Championships!

Sidney raced to three new AAA time standards in the 200m Individual Medley, 200m Freestyle and 50m Freestyle! She now has ten AAA times!

Durban added his fourth AAA Championship time standard with a big drop in the 200m Individual Medley!

Lucas raced to his first AA time standard (and might have realized he needs to train more distance) with an impressive swim in the 1500m Freestyle!

Josh added his sixth event at AA Championships in the 400m Individual Medley while Thomas now has five AA time standards thanks to his 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle swims!

Durban, Josh and Laura all raced their first 200m Butterfly and are all very excited to race the 200m Butterfly more often!

Both Laura and Tyler swam to 100% best times and are approaching AA Time Standards in multiple events!

We had some big drops at the meet: Quincy was 53 seconds under her previous best in the 400m Individual Medley, Jessica took off 35 seconds in her 400m Individual Medley, Durban improved by 23 seconds in the 200m Backstroke, Meghan’s 200m Backstroke was 18 seconds faster, Thomas had a big 14 second improvement in his 400m Individual Medley, Sidney dropped 13 seconds in her 200m Backstroke, Morgan took off 10 seconds in her 100m Butterfly and Tyler dropped 10 seconds from December in his 200m Freestyle!

Our relays were really fun, with a lot of great racing and fast times. Two of our teams won their events! Congratulations to our 12&under Girls 4x50m Medley Relay – Laura, Jessica, Sidney and Keala as well as our 13-14 Girls 4x50m Freestyle Relay – Quincy, Sophie, Avery, Morgan! We also had five relay teams finish second overall!

Durban, Morgan, Quincy, Sidney, Aidan and Jessica will now focus on preparing for SwimBC AAA Championships in March. Jade, Josh, Thomas, Cami, Avery, Marisa and Sophie will work towards performing at SwimBC AA Championships in February. All other LMR qualified swimmers will train towards LMR Championships in February.
Next weekend we hope to add swimmers to the LMR Championships and SwimBC Championships meet lists with some fast swimming at the Chena Invitational!
