Coach Don Feinberg inducted in the hall of fame

Coach Don Feinberg was honored at the Maryland Swimming Hall of Fame luncheon on May 6th.  He was in very good company, as an Olympic medalist and two other highly accomplished coaches like Coach Don, were also inducted into this prestigious community.

Don Feinberg is a coach who has left and continues to carve an indelible mark in Frederick County, Maryland Swimming and USA Swimming.  Born in Washington, D.C., Don’s first exposure to the water was at age 5 for the Forest Knolls Summer team.  At age 9, he began swimming year round with RMSC, then Silver Spring Y, then back to RMSC.  During college, he began coaching summer league at Glenwood Recreation Club in Wheaton, Maryland.

In 1981, Don began a 19-year stint at Frederick High School where his swimmers set a record for consecutive public high school wins – 136.  At the same time, he began coaching for the Monocacy Aquatic Club, MAC, where he has served as an age group coach, Head Age Group Coach, Head Coach, and where he still coaches today.

In 2000, Don became the Head Coach of Men’s and Women’s Swimming at Hood College, as well as the director of Aquatics.  Don has coached one Junior National Champion, two Olympic Trial Qualifiers, one of whom, Beau Wiebel placed 6th in 200 and 400 IM, achieved a World Ranking of 7th and won 2 gold medals as a member of Team USA at the World University Games in 1999.

At Hood, Don was 3-time Conference Coach of the Year, has won three Conference titles and played a large role in the expansion and renovation of the Huntsinger Aquatic Center in 2013.  In 2001, Don was inducted into the Frederick County Sports Hall of Fame.  Don is married to his wife, Blanca, and they have two daughters.

We are very privileged to have Coach Don at MAC.  Please see the attached picture of him accepting at the event, and in a following email because of the size, a picture with our two head coaches, Jeb Beaver and Chris Kaplan.  And please congratulate him on this incredible honor!
