DCST Girls Earn Fourth Place at Area Championships

                The Kishwaukee YMCA / DeKalb County Swim Team earned a 4th place finish at the IL / MO Area Girls Championships.  As a whole, the girls team swam extremely well with 36 improve times out of a total of 54 swims for a 67% improvement rating.  On the day, DCST set 5 new team records, won 4 events, won two age group high point awards, and set a new IL / MO Area record.  Combined with the boy’s scores from Saturday, DCST finished 3rd in the combined scoring.

                The first DCST age group to win the high point award was the girls ages 8 and younger division.  Athena Ye had a perfect day by winning all three of her individual events (25 yard Backstroke, 25 yard Butterfly and 100 yard IM).  She also set new DCST team records in all three events, and her time of 1:17.56 in the 100 yard IM is a new IL / MO Area Record!  Abby Pardridge continued DCST’s domination in this age group with a 2nd place finish in the 25 yard Backstroke, a 3rd place finish in the 50 yard Freestyle, and a 3rd place finish the 25 yard Breaststroke.  Her time in the 50 yard Freestyle broke the previous team record which was formerly held by her coach, Melanie Chambers.  To complete their extremely busy days, Ye and Pardridge combined with Caroline Mackey and Daphne Howell to earn a 5th place finish in the 100 yard Freestyle Relay.

                Not to out done by the youngsters, DCST’s Senior Girls, ages 15 and older, also won their age group high point award.  DCST dominated the 500 yard Freestyle by taking 1st place (Emily Launer), 3rd place (Valerie Jones), 4th place (Tara Gidaszewski) and 6th place (Jessica Lauzon).  Launer also added a 2nd place in the 200 yard Freestyle and 3rd place in the 100 yard Backstroke.  Her time in the 100 yard Backstroke was new DCST Team Record.  In addition to her 500 yard Freestyle, Valerie Jones also placed in the top 4 in her other two individual events (3rd place in the 100 yard Breaststroke and 4th place in the 200 yard IM).  Katie Hallenbeck was DCST’s 3rd swimmer in this age group to make finals in all 3 of her individual events (4th place in the 100 yard Butterfly, 5th place in the 200 yard Freestyle, and 5th place in the 200 yard IM).  With a 2nd place finish in the 100 yard Freestyle and 3rd place finish in the 200 yard Freestyle, Casey Jepsen had a very successful day.  In addition to the 500 yard Freestyle, Tara Gidaszewski also took home a 4th place in the 100 yard Backstroke.  Sharron Isola rounded out DCST’s 15 and over individual swims in finals with an 8th place in the 200 yard IM.  In the Medley Relay, Launer, Jones, Hallenbeck and Jepsen teamed up to finish 2nd.

                In the 11 – 12 year old girls age group, Kylie Olson, Jensen Keck, Alexa Miller and Kayleigh Koszlowski finished in 5th place in the 200 yard Medley Relay.  In the individual events, Keck finished 6th in the 50 yard Breaststroke and 7th in the 200 yard Freestyle; while Alexa Miller took home a 5th place finish in the 200 yard IM.  Caitlynn Moon dropped over 9 seconds in the 13 – 14 year old 500 yard Freestyle to earn an 8th place finish.
