LC AAA Champs Review

The Hurricanes had a great showing at the SwimBC Long Course AAA Championships this past weekend in Kamloops!

We added three new qualifiers for Canadian Junior Championships – Aidan qualified in the 100m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke! Quincy qualified in the 50m Freestyle! Morgan broke through in the 400m Freestyle! Jessica also added the 200m Backstroke as her fourth event to her Canadian Juniors schedule!

Our team raced to the medal podium four times and scored points in 26/32 of our total swims! Incredible numbers for a small team. Congratulations to our medalists – Jessica tied for Gold in the 50m Breaststroke! Morgan raced to a Bronze in the 100m Freestyle! Quincy out touched a close heat for the Bronze in the 50m Freestyle! And our 4x50m Freestyle Relay team of Quincy, Cami, Jessica and Morgan raced to the first Hollyburn AAA Provincial Relay Medal in the last 20-30 years!

The 4x50m Freestyle Relay was especially exciting, Quincy led off the relay with her first Canadian Junior standard with a time of 28.16! Cami swam next with an amazing 29.19, 1.3 seconds under her previous best! Jessie also broke 30 seconds for the first time with a 29.58! Morgan had an incredible finish racing to a time of 27.45! Over a second under her best time and just getting out touched for the silver medal. It was very fun to watch and such a great accomplishment against all of the big teams in our province. The girls also swam to an 8th place finish in the 4x100m Medley Relay, both times getting to race in the final heat for their age group.

Morgan had a great meet finishing top eight in six of her events, qualifying for Canadian Juniors in the 400m Freestyle and breaking four club records.

Quincy was also very impressive with four finals and three consolation finals over a full weekend of eight events. She broke the qualifying time in the 50m Freestyle three times over the weekend after getting closer and closer all season, improving her club record in the event each time.

Jessica improved her times in all her events and qualified for the 200m Backstroke at Canadian Juniors with a great finals swim. Her 50m Breaststroke was a lightning fast 35.59 and she was incredible on both relays.

Aidan was racing in the bottom of a tough age group but really put through consistently great performances racing to consolation finals in five of his events. He was under the Canadian Junior standard in both the 100m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke and just missed by .01 in the 100m Backstroke.

Josh did an outstanding job racing at AAA Championships less than three weeks after qualifying at AA Championships. He impressively swam to best times in the 50m Freestyle and 1500m Freestyle, scoring points in the 1500m at his first AAA Championships!

Cami was a big part of our relay swims racing to best times on both relays and getting a medal at her first AAA Championships!
