This weekend LAC swimmers participated in three different meets.
At the last Fireballs dual meet, LAC swimmers had some awesome performances, including swims by Alina, Elliott, Braeden, Avery, Mitchell, Claire, and many others. A majority of swimmers got at least one season best time. Some dropped in every race. Coaches Theresa and Rich have been doing a fantastic job with the 11 and up groups and they continue to drop as we move through the season. We are looking forward to seeing what our Fireballs can do in what seems to be a very tightly packed Valley Swim League Championship meet this Saturday!
At the SRVA meet, we had some breakout performances. Almost every LAC swimmer got at least one best time. Lillian was our 7-8 rep with some good drops in the 100fr and 50bk. Eva, Gabby, Sophia, Leila, Kymber, Jack, Dylan, and Gabriel all had multiple drops. Sophia dropped 21 seconds in the 100 back, Kymber dropped 15 in the 100 free! Cheryl had best times in our 11-12 group, as did Nick. Saige, Jessica, Ashlynn, Elizabeth, Sutton, Sarah, and Bryson all had drops. Ashlynn had a breakout meet with drops of 20 seconds in the 200bk and 6 seconds in the 200 free, a new JO. Hadi was our stronghold in 15-16 group, with several best times including a big drop in the 200 back. Way to go SRVA swimmers, you've had a great season and we are looking forward to the first meet of next season. Over the next two weeks, see if you can improve one skill a day in practice.
At the LA Invitational on the USC campus, our swimmers had a blast and swam fast. Thanks so much to Trish and Steve Gomez for handling the chaperoning duties. Thanks to Nicola Lee for helping to organize lunchs. We had some awesome swims and ended up 18th in the team combined score, out of about 100 teams. USC, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, and several Canadian teams were represented, along with teams from Texas, Colorado, and Arizona. Abby got a new FW in the 100 free, and best times in the 100 and 200 breast (9 sec drop). She also swam a blazing 29.9 fly split on the 200 M.R. Maddie got a best time in the 100 back, and had great splits on the 200 M.R., 400 M.R. and 800 F.R. Aven got a new FW in the 200 back, and a new best time in the 100 free. Katie got a new FW in the 100 free, and best times in the 50 free and 100 fly. Kaela got new Sectional times in the 50 free and 100 free and a best time in the 200 free. Jackie got best times in the 50 free, 200 IM and 100 breast and was a top 16 finalist in the 100 breast. Ryan got all best unshaved times and helped our team score on relays. Michael got a best time in the 50 free and 100 free. He is now .1 from Futures in the 50. Jared got lifetime best unshaved times, and a lifetime best in the 100 breast. He made finals in the 100 breast. Matthew got 100% lifetime best unshaved times and was a stronghold on our relays. Jacob made a new FW time in the 100 free, a new Sectional time in the 50 free, and got a best time in the 100 fly. Paige got 100% best times and made finals in the 100/200 back, and 200 breast. He had a great lead-off split in our 400 M.R. Dante, in his last LAC meet, got lifetime bests in the 50 and 100 free and swam a blazing 57.1 split on our 400 M.R.
The men's 400 M.R. was disqualified for an early take off, but it was one of our best team races. All the boys had lifetime best or best unshaved splits and if we weren't disqualified we would have been 6th place, ahead of Mission Viejo, a team of 1500 swimmers and one of the oldest most storied teams in our country. The guys were awesome!
This year our goal was to have 10 swimmers in LA and we qualified 13. Next season our goal is to have 20. If you were close, or if you are ready to dream big, please put this meet on your goal sheet. It is a lot of fun, and inspiring!
Thanks to all LAC parents who supported your children's swimming this weekend by taking them to meets, timing, and giving them unconditional love. We appreciate you,
